That's ridiculous and so many people have lost their jobs and livelihood through all this shit. Not one of those individuals should get a dime and either should the Politician's in office who did absolutely nothing to earn a single penny. We get screwed all the time, it's sickening....

Perspective within the industry... Not looking at Fauci as a government bureaucrat, but as the CEO of a 20,000 plus employee organization with a $41 Bn budget

Make no mistake though - Fauci is a big government bureaucrat. He’s actually more like a politician with an MD at this phase.
No matter how big the budget nor how many employees - he walks, talks and acts like a bureaucrat.

What would his salary be at a major med center? I’m sure it would be comparable. How do you get people of worth to work for government if you don’t pay them reasonably for their time and level of responsibility?
Agree or disagree with the man, he is a trained professional very near the top of his industry. I’m sure he could be working as the head of any of those pharmaceuticals for those big bonus schedules, instead he’s chosen to stay in government.
For that he gets to draw the ire of half the country to include death threats?
I’ll wait and see what they can accomplish this yr....ymmv

This is the root of my issue with him/his position. No doubt, those with his education and experience make similar amounts of money and more. However for Fauci to represent himself as an impartial voice in a position of public trust is nonsense.
Admittedly, at that level there is hardly anyone without inherent conflicts of interest in any industry. But that speaks to why there are so many disclosure laws on the books, and also why "drain the swamp" was such a popular idea.

Public service SHOULD NOT be profitable
for anyone
I don't care if you are an esteemed scientist that invented time travel and discovered parallel universes while simultaneously solving male pattern baldness and premature ejaculation - there should be no chance of grand enrichment or profit motive attached to government service.
It is the very fucking nature of the word "service"
If you want to serve - serve - if you want to be a high paid millionaire public personality - get a job in the private sector.
If you want to serve - serve- there is nothing that says a life of service to the nation cannot command a fair salary for your talents and efforts but making public service profitable is what has fucked up our country so catastrophically
The annual salary for a member of the US Congress is 174,000 dollars.
Yet the the majority of America's elected officials in Washington, D.C. are millionaires - in part because they can abuse insider trading laws to invest their paltry salary figures while spending taxpayer funding to cover most of their daily activities
as well as having a taxpayer funded slush fund to pay for their legal indiscretions
also in part because they are morally and ethically corrupt but lets put a pin in that discussion for now....
The public faces seen on TV over the last years doing what is essentially public lobbying for increased funding in their departments is shameful - it is a sign of how fucking incompetent our nations elected officials really are.
Manage your OWN affairs the same way that our 535 elected legislators manage our national affairs and you would find yourself in debtors prison.
...or locked up with Martha Stewart for insider trading
...or convicted for tax evasion like Steven Baldwin, Nicolas Cage, Pete Rose, Willie Nelson, Ja rule, Wesley Snipes, Darryl Strawberry, or the legions of common peasants that get fucked over by the IRS
What did Leona Helmsley say all those years ago, "Only little people pay taxes." ??
Ha fuck off little people - peasant - eat cake mother fuckers
Keep that "Only little people pay taxes." comment in mind as you ponder the fact that the average net worth of our 535 criminal legislators is upwards of 10 million dollars. Some of them are worth 10 times that amount. I'm sure its because they all have such well managed and lucrative professions outside of politics - even though their adult life has been spent profiting from politics.
"Public Service" my ass...

I read that Fauci in all his experience has only about a year of actual medical practice time..the rest of his career is all government bureaucrat.

“Rule by the experts” is getting to be a worse problem all the time.
Experts, in whatever field, can advise on the likely consequences of a particular course of action.
That is not the same thing as deciding which course of action should be taken.
The former is an expert opinion.
The latter is a political decision.
Political decisions are made all the time which weigh the cost in blood and treasure for the potential benefit.
All of this has to also be done within the constraints of the Constitution, or else the whole system eventually collapses.
“Experts” have become unelected unaccountable political actors who may exaggerate in one direction or another to sway political decisions towards their desired outcomes.
The outcome is always the same: corruption, because power corrupts.

GC... Respectfully...
I would suggest that the use of "Czars" unilaterally appointed by the White House is indeed problematic.
This should not lump-in appointees that are within the structure of government.
Going against the tide in here. We don't want lowest cost, technically feasible result in this. You can rail against the Swamp all you want but believe it or not there are some roles and positions in government that are actually important and impactful.
Fauci has been running NAIAD since 1984 He started under the most Republicans of Republicans for those of you who buy into the two party bullshit. I figure he's pretty good at his job.
I'm also pretty certain that he had ZERO interest in getting drug into this frantic bullshit and partisan politics of COVID.
Just saying....

I agree that these experts don’t really want to get dragged into this stuff.
But they do have an opinion on what they think is the best course of action, usually influenced by what is considered the “best” outcome in their specialty.
Because they are specialists, other conflicting considerations in the bigger picture are outside their expertise.
This is why we (ideally) have generalists, accountable by the people, to consider all aspects before choosing a course of action.
To be fair, calling them corrupt is probably a bit much.
It’s also unfair for those with political responsibility to hide behind them.
I do believe most of these experts are intelligent, competent in their fields, and mean well.
But even if they do know best some of the time, it is a dangerous precedent to invest de facto political power in a non-political office.
