I don't like the UN either but did I miss something?:

Quote:
"If, actually, the foreign assistance of many countries now is 0.1 or 0.2 percent of the gross national income, I think that is stingy, really," he said. "I don't think that is very generous."

In an interview Monday night with CNN, Egeland reiterated his view: "It bothers me that we -- the rich nations -- are not becoming more generous the more rich we become."

The average rich country gives just 0.2 percent of its national income to international solidarity and international assistance, he said.
I don't see any specific nation mentioned in the quote. Is the U.S. the only "rich" nation in the world? Keeping in mind that the Middle Eastern countries are among the richest, oer capita, in the world, oerhaps his statement is correct. Perhaps, rather than flapping our arms in indignation we should be challenging the other nations of the world to at least match our contribution.

Perhaps Mr. Egeland wouldn't have popped off if Secretary-General Annan had been there to comment. Fox News reported last night that Annan didn't feel the need to interrupt his Wyoming ski vacation. Ran a sound bite of his to the effect that with today's technology you can work anywhere. Today I read other news wire reports that he was cutting short his vacation and heading back to NYC.
