Every time I see a Chiwawa I think; "There's no f**king way that thing descended from a wolf."
Now I think the same thing about many of the Europeans.......

(in all seriousness, I am surprised no where in the U.S. this hasn't already been proposed, like say maybe San Francisco or something?).
In Germany, they banned ninja throwing stars I read. They also now either require or some want to require a permit or license to buy pepper spray guns. Since Germans can't own real guns, they sell replicas of real firearms that fire pepper spray (so for example it looks like an AR-15 but really shoots pepper spray). But now they do or want to require a permit or license to purchase one of those. They keep making the laws more and more restrictive after each mass shooting that occurs there, but being the laws are already very restrictive, they have gotten into comical territory with them.

German citizens can own guns but the process is hard. I have asked an German friend of mine, he told me either you can get a handgun permit for competitive shooting which requires practice at a registered club for an year. Another route is passing the German hunters exam after which one can buy long guns and 2 handguns.

Let's be fair, my avatar dog has been attacked by far more Chihuahuas than Europeans.

Judging from the reaction from members of various British knife fora when anyone posts a knife pic that happens to contain a firearm of any type, they are well and truly brainwashed into thinking that even a photo of a gun constitutes an assault with a deadly weapon.
Many seem quite proud of the fact that they can only carry non locking blades of less than three inches. Anything over that or god forbid it locks and you must be a Kray. Everyone knows the injuries that locking blades will force you to inflict on others.

Socialism at it's finest.
Morons that listen to a very corrupt gov that allows muslims to rape little kids and does nothing because they are afraid.
So taking away knives is a brilliant idea, in fact just grant a few more million muslims amnesty and soon England with be under sharia law........ who cares.

Where did they get the weapons for the military during both World Wars?

What type of people are likely to comply with this request? The victims that may possibly use their knife in self defense, or the scumbags?

I always find it amusing when the nanny state apologists start yapping about banning/confiscating knives.
The odds of being killed or injured by falling are far greater. Maybe we should ban gravity next.
Whenever I run into a blade fearing candyass, I always like to ask them if they've ever considered how many knives they have in their kitchen...
As a knife maker by trade, and also a generally inquisitive person by nature, over the course of my career, I've conducted a great many unscientific interviews with a wide array of law enforcement professionals. You guys want to know what the most common knife is that these people confiscate off of bad guys? A steak knife of the type that one might find at, say, Outback or Sizzler. Second most common is a 6"-10" butchers/chefs knife. Why is that? Because they are cheap (or free if one steals them from a restaurant), ubiquitous, and designed to cut meat. Which, if I am not mistaken, is what most humans are made of...

If my memory serves me right, I believe there was a call to ban "assault" knives in the UK a few years ago. Just what the hell is an "assault" knife?

I was in London back in 2007 or so, and was told by our local contacts not to carry my folding knife or Leatherman in public. Locking blades, serrations, and blades were too long.
What a country of (formerly) free men.

In London last year I was dispossessed of my Leatherman when visiting The Shard, their idea of a sky-scraper. They were afraid I would hijack the elevator. I wonder where I would force it to go under the threat of my corkscrew?
