PEGGY NOONAN, WALL STREET JOURNAL: Oh, well I thought everything Rudy Giuliani just said was true. If it had been a Republican vice presidential candidate who had made those gaffes, one after another, so comically, and all on tape, the subject today of the panel would be how stupid is this person, can this person possibly govern?
Governor Palin's heavily-edited interview with Charlie Gibson was aired on 11-12 September 2008. In her conversation, she was not skillful in defining the Bush Doctrine. (The full transcript is available here.) The next installment of Meet the Press, the panel did not talk about her performance in that interview but did focus on her comments regarding Senator Clinton (transcript is here).

NBC's Katie Couric dismantled Governor Palin in a two-part interview aired on 24-25 September 2008 (transcript and video of part one is here, part two is there). The interview was not mentioned on the next episode of Meet the Press (transcript is here).

In the subsequent weeks leading up to the election Governor Palin was rarely discussed and when she was, her growing number of gaffes were not the focus of the conversation.

The MSM didn't have time for Palin late in the election of 2008 - it was tripping over itself in covering the Obama campaign, historic event and all.

IIRC, SNL did the Palin bit in late September 2008...the damage of Palin, self-inflicted and otherwise, had basically been done.

Palin is old news (never was the VP) - Biden is the current VP - Ryan is a current VP nominee. IMO, fair, openminded, objective comparisons (practically an impossibility with our MSM and blogosphere) between Ryan and Biden seem appropriate.

YMMV - roll on November.

It is indeed tough; we will all have to sift our own chaff from grain, due diligence, and so on. Lots of people working in the belly of the beast regard SPLC and MSNBC as "moderate" sources.

Tick-tock.
