Anyone under 55 telling you how fucked up it was in Vietnam in "Poontang Province" when he saw his South Vietnamese counterpart, Sum Yung Gai, get blown apart...
True story, I was out at a jump about 6 months ago and some civilian contractor was chatting up one of my guys, so I walked over to kill some time before they CANX the jump because of winds.
This cat was wearing a Vietnam Veteran baseball cap so I asked him who he was with during the war...he tells me he was in Ia Drang in 1968 with the Cav (Hal Moore and all that... )...I laughed in his face...he left fairly quickly after that...if you're going to be a poser, at least have the courtesy to do the legwork and research so that it takes someone more than 30 seconds to punch holes in your shitty story

Gun shop, yesterday
Guy states, He was in the Airforce in Vietnam, in 79, you know, secret mission's picking up downed aircraft. Gun paperwork, he is 54.
Yea I know it is not a SF fraud, but since he added 'secret missions' I am counting it.

I met a Guy in Dallas who claims he was in the Coast Guard and went through Marine training to go on classified missions to emplace and repair special guidance beacons behind enemy lines in Vietnam. He got mad when I laughed at him in front of a crowd of rapt listeners.
They're a joint service plague.
"My uncle was in the special forces in the Marines" - I've lost count of how many times I've heard that one.

When the story starts with: "There I was..."
Followed by any of the below:
knee deep
surrounded by
deep in enemy
out of
covered in
Usually time to put the waders on.

It's clear they're posing when they say they were in your Bn at the same time and don't remember anybody that you know... especially the guys that everybody knew in the whole damn Gp...

From a supposed 18D. "I am not familiar with 300F1"
From a supposed SF Medic when asked what his MOS was. "I was an 19D". Called him on it big time and it ended up he attended a CLS course put on by some 18Ds. On his CV that turned into SF Medic.

That one is actually true.
I saw two guys after graduation refuse to sign the extensions to allow for 36 months at their unit of assignment, assuming that the CoC would nott make an issue out of it.
They picked the wrong day to challenge authority and were put out, after their Tabs and orders were revoked.

Actually that might be a true quote..... I've been on missions that might not be declassified. Lots of missions are classified and many not declassified.
