Somehow those two don't seem to go together...

Technologically this was pretty impressive.

But we still can't design automobiles that operate on alternative fuels or radically extend current fuel economy standards. I find that puzzling/annoying.

I'm with you on that on. I think the technology is there but in my opinion it's being held back on purpose. Look at all the money the government makes on fuel. Heck the gas station owner only makes pennies per gallon in profit when the government takes somewhere around 45 cents per gallon. My question is "FOR WHAT?" They didn't produce it, distribute it, market it or sell it. It's just another way for them to get more money to waste on BS causes/projects.
