I think A Christmas Story is on TV during the holidays every year which pretty much features the BB gun, though I didn't know about the book on the Red Ryder.

We all had BB gun growing up in Texas and Missouri, and perhaps it's an urban thing, but these days living in the city I bite my tongue to keep silent when folks say things like football is too dangerous for boys, so you can imagine where they stand on BB guns. IIRC Bill Rogers the shooting instructor wrote about mail ordering a SMLE as an 8 year old in the 50's for varmint duty, times have changed.

There was a series of cowboy books for kids I used to devour, I think set in Colorado, one of them may have been titled The Gold Nugget about, ranches, indian fighting and bandits, but I can't recall the name of the series.

Lenny Bruce's take. (If you're easily offended, don't bother watching.)

Speaking of that, does anyone read Louis L'amour?

Only one book - Last of the Breed - one of my favorite books.

Talk about trading material in SF. It was any book by him. Major Topp read his books to the point of almost devouring them.

He was such an avid reader of L'amour that I only ran into one similar to him. Topp was the C-5 S-4 for about 50 days in mid 68. I worked for him. He was insulted as a former IV Corps Mike Force CO being thrown in a position a 1LT or CPT max has. Topp went back to the IV Corps Mike Force in August 68.I felt damn lucky to have worked for him for under two months prior to getting a company.

Col. Cook should know him.

Was a huge fan until I picked up some westerns by William W. Johnstone. Now I hooked on "Smoke" and "The Preacher".

No disrespect intended but it has nothing to do with your age. Just keep your glasses on while reading and you will be fine. Well, thats what my wife tells me anyway

The Lone Ranger and Tonto get surrounded by hostile Indians. They are down to their last few rounds of ammo, the Lone rangers says," Well Tonto, looks like we are done for!"
Tonto replies, "What you mean, "We", white boy?"

And yes, I have read Louis L'amour. I liked most of them. Last of the Breed was a good one. There's a few bad guys still out there that should have their hair sent home in a box.
