SF-TX, why doesn't this surprise us. And I thought that well-educated muslims were so tolerant?
I understand the concept of "know thy enemy", hell, I embrace it as much as possible. But what I don't get is why, since 9/11, westerners have been hellbent on aplogizing, understanding, tolerating, ass-kissing, placating and practically worshipping islam? At the end of the day, IMHO, we will only see where their loyalty is...with their own!
TS...I have had many friends, as well as my boyfriend, say the say thing "didn't really trust them", "never let my guard down". And I am glad none of you did...I don't like funerals!
I worked with many of them in NYC, didn't trust them before 9/11 and loathed them afterward. I see their kindness and attempt at "assimilation" into our country is a form of infilitration and nothing else. I have tried to understand and be open-minded but that kind of attitude got us where we are today.

I have had extensive experience with Muslims in Saudi Arabia. I have found them to be charming and friendly one on one. They are pricks and 'A' holes when in a group and "anonymous". My bet is that it is part of a "good face" policy of see we are not that bad one on one and you are just making up all the bad stuff.
This does not surprise me at all as they act civilized until some part of their 7th century beliefs kick in.
My 2 cents.

Hard question to answer, hard to define
The simple answer (in my opinion) is that the teachings of Islam are fairly radical in general, especially when it relates to the "missionary" type work. I believe that it is stated that their task is to convert all non-Muslims, and if successful, the convert is a brother. If un-successfuly, the non convert then becomes an enemy.
As with any religion, there are the fanatics, those who "go to church", and those who say they are Muslim but don't set foot in t temple. By fanatic, I am not only talking about those who live eat and breath Islam, but also those who are dedicated and live their lives as according to the Koran, but are not Jihadists.
When I was in Iraq, I met many Muslims. The only ones I was able to establish any working relationship with were those that were Muslim only in word.
I honestly found it hard to trust any of the religious Muslims. Everyone had ties either directly or indirectly with the Mahdi Militia and other Muslim organizations.
The long drawn out answer to the topic is that, I think that there is essentially little difference between a Jihadist and a religious, Muslim fanatic. The part time Muslims can go either way depending on what crowd they are in.

I noticed a term in this article. What is a "militant, born-again Christian proslytyzer"? Does this equate to a muslim suicide bomber/jihad soldier?
Hypothetically, if I run up to a militant, born-again Christian proslytyzer, and say "your messiah is a doo-doo head", will this person a) engage me in discussion/debate; b) walk away; or c) videotape himself cutting off my head in the name of his selected deity?

I'm thinking those few and far between, OTOH there have been multitudes of Christians killed by muslims especially in Sudan.
