Yes this is true...the two years I spent in Kandahar and the 5 southern provinces made that abundantly clear.
Most ME cultures have a huge homosexual underground because of the dif of young men to be around women.
So, they do each other instead....and many acquire a 'taste' for young boys.
Most of the Pashtun jokes are about this subject.
"Why does a bird fly over Kandahar with one wing"?
"So he can protect his backside with the other". (Pashtun humor)
In the 205th Afghan Corps we had a Bn Cmder rape a young troop at gunpoint...the Bn Cmder did not lose 'Face' over this as it could not be proven....
This is a ME issue, SA, Jordan,...name a country there samo samo

Hilarious. This topic could give rise to some fantatic new running cadences and back-of-the-deuce and a half songs.

I too heard the "women for babies, boys for fun" quip from LN's while in Iraq.
So, while perhaps not indicative of the whole culture, there's certainly a strong sub culture of homosexual/pedos in the macro culture.

Is it any wonder the Pashto have angry young men? Taliban are hypocrites. DADT is a little strange too.
On the one hand, an extreme interpretation of their religion severely limits the availability (and rights) of females. Sexual outlets are few and far between, ergo homo-sex - it's not what you are it's what you do because there are no other viable options.
OTOH, as a young boy you are vulnerable to institutionalized sexual domination.
This has been going on for at least 2300 years - since Alexander, a man-loving Macedonian, conquered most of the world known to the ancient Greeks.
So anyway, it's a cultural tradition that has been around thousands of years. I say give them internet and leave them alone (after taking out the really bad apples). They'll figure it out in a few hundred years.
