Hope 95 in MD is better than it is in the DC area.
The DC airports are essentially closed. Andrews had to be plowed for Obama to land. Global warming indeed.

Apparently, the Raleigh Durham airport was shut down yesterday and a lot of the guys who were trying to get home for Christmas spent the night there.

It's coming down pretty good in my part of NJ, about an inch or so an hour. It is supposed to get worse overnight, shoveling in the morning will be fun.

Hope they found the USO.

Don't blame us
I should like to point out that the great state of Colorado had nothing to do with this weather event.
While we normally "refine" eastbound storms here in the Rockies, this one is the result of warm Suthren rain meeting cold Canadian air. My sympathies.
Hope things thaw out for you there.
It'll be April before they do here.

Son's GF and her freind got in from Orlando just as the airport closed down. Himself ferried 4 guys back to Bragg, two of whom had lovely young ladies riding on thier laps...sitting, I mean sitting. Geez, you all have dirty minds..
He drove them all back in the morning, before leaving for Fla with his harem.
Lovely stuff, snow. I saw video of it all over the DC Mall.It was quite pretty. I am thrilled to be where I am. I do not miss it at all.
TR your family make it in safe?
Merry Christmas all!!

I got a call from my brother on Saturday about noon. His wife's nephew was flying in from Camp Pendleton and got stuck in Philadelphia airport. No more flights out, and all the flights for Sunday overbooked. Oh yeah, and all his luggage lost. The nephew is a young Recon Marine who just made it through BRC.
I guess it surprised my brother that I immediately volunteered to drive down to the airport in the snow and pick the kid up. There's no way I would let some young Marine spend the night in PHL with no luggage on his way home for Christmas if I can do something about it, and I'm sure most people on this board would do the same.
I was very impressed by what they are teaching these young Marines. He clearly has a solid chain of command that is doing the right things. He had a lot of questions about the Army way of doing things. Turns out that he is considering crossing over and trying for SF later on after he has got some solid time in the Recon battalions. I think he will be a credit to either service.

This storm has affected the entire air travel network. My wife flew back from San Francisco last night and was over two hours late due to re-routing of a/c, availability of air crews, and switching larger a/c to the Eastern routes to help clear the backlog of passengers, etc. Didn't bother her much - she was upgraded to 1st Class (free dinner and wine) - and didn't bother me, either, as I was just glad she made it safely.

Did not get plowed out until yesterday pm. Blew a hydraulic line on my front end loader. Had to pay to get my driveway plowed so I could get a replacement line .

23 hours and 30 minutes to go from Bragg to Northern Jersey. Just under 600 miles, normally a 10-11 hour drive, including rest stops.
The first four hours to Richmond were normal. It took over seven hours to go from Quantico to Baltimore. They got off for a quick stop at the Andrews AFB exit and got stuck behind a Nissan Altima that lacked the ground clearance to get down the ramp. Took about an hour to shovel/dig/push them out. The Jersey Turnpike was down to one lane plowed, no exits cleared. Dead stopped, if anyone had an accident, lost control, or stopped. They were running behind the storm, after the delay around DC, so most of the snow had fallen, but not yet cleared. DC, Baltimore, Philly, Newark, they got to see the worst of it. The kids say that they have seen enough snow for a while.
Return trip tomorrow, hopefully things will be better coming home.

Should not be too bad heading back down. We made the drive from MD to FL yesterday and it went fairly smoothly (16 hours with doggy breaks). Early A.M. had some packed-snow and icey areas (thank you All-Wheel-Drive), but we cleared any significant road mess just south of Richmond. The greatest challenge were the areas where the far right or left lanes were not completely cleared and some people took longer than others to come to that realization.
