Fonzy,
Congratulations. I was fortunate enough to be a grader this time around. I got mine last time around. (small world huh?) You guys did a great job in the cold rain. Not sure if that was better or worse than the 115 degree heat last time. Good job.

Congrats brother!

EIB pre-req week and testing weeks were some of my most enjoyable times in the eighty-deuce. I think I still have the video of me falling over the finish line with heatstroke (what can I say, I was a stupid gung-ho private who thought water was a crutch).

Did you true blue it?

Thats pretty much how I remember it being run. No outside support. You have to figure if past winners are running the test. They are not going to give anything away.
I first heard about the EIB Team from a SGM who said he was on it during his time at the FT Benning Infantry School. It had to be a pretty big Team. They would show up at the Unit. Set up the stations. Then run the test. It was the responsibility of the Units to run the train up before they arrived.
From reading about this later on. I got the impression this EIB Team had a lot of pull. It was also considered a prestige assignment. They always took along at least one Officer for support. This Officer always held a higher Rank then the Commander of the Unit being tested. IMO, Smart move.

Sir,
Negative, was good up until the third day with seven stations left. Got over confident on the claymore and made a stupid mistake which I recovered from. My third to last station (I saved hand and arms signals as well as cammo for last) was plot known point, got nervous since I was so close and jacked up a grid. Thankfully I was able to recover from that as well, would of been a so-sad day if I went through all that and double no-go'd on my third to last station.

Congrats! I remember the day I pinned on my EIB like it was yesterday.

I remember back in 95 we got a new CSM that felt that many in our unit (and the Infantry in general) hid behind their CIBs.
*its interesting to note that he only had a EIB, and had never been awarded the CIB.

He felt that once a soldier earned that CIB, they no longer felt the need or pressure to challenge themselves and earn an EIB.

The old "Why do I need the EIB? I already have the CIB" attitude is what he hated.

He so much as said that ANYONE that expected to be a Team or Squadleader in his battalion had better have an EIB when they appeared before him at the E5 and E6 promotion boards!

That very next EIB cycle (this was at Ft. Hood, and I think we ran 2 or 3 a year) every NCO in the unit that didnt have an EIB was out on West Ft. Hood going through the testing!
