LOL

We can't hunt over that yellow gold (corn) that I have seen in some of your pictures either. Hunting over feeders is a big no-no with the game warden down here. Of course, we just plant huge green fields with all sorts of tasty vegetation instead. Go figure.

Sir, if you want... I will be glad to come up. I will go on patrols inside your property to rid your land of some of those pesky antlered varmint that frequent your bear feeders. HaHa

You boys use salt licks instead?

We could form a team and go to some of the deer check stations and while I age the deer by tooth wear you can make a mint caring for those gap toothed good ole boys who have never seen a dentist in their lives. I wish I had a nickle for every rigomortised deer jaw I had to crack as a graduate student to complete a deer population dynamics project. I could probably help you in that regard, because some of these folks would need someone to crack their jaws so that you could get access to their molar(s).

I don't have a magnified scope on my crossbow but it does have a red dot on it.

As I understand it in Kentucky you can bait deer but you cannot hunt baited areas for turkey. I live here in the middle of the woods and have a hanging corn feeder in my yard. I have 3 does that visit twice a day but the bucks wont go anywhere near it or my yard. I have 3 turkeys that cross through as well but they never stop at the corn for some reason but may spend and hour scratching up the yard. I do have squirrels that are so fat some could pass for tree living groundhogs.

I have a stand up on the ridge within walking distance from the house but for serious hunting I go to my farm in the next county. Well that and I dont really want to pop my little corn fed does.

I guess I'm not invited, I have all my teeth except for the impacted wisdom teeth that were removed on base at Ft. Bragg.

Funny thing is I lied to my 1stSG about having a tooth ache to get out of a 20 mile road march the morning after a good drinking binge with the boy's of the 504th PIR and suddenly I was in a chair in the "Oral Surgery" dept of the base dentist. He pulled all FOUR !! One the absolute worst experiences of my life. Karma had it's way with me, or I just got what I deserved.

I never again tried to get out of an road march.

I got an antelope a couple weeks ago. I hit the poor bastard with a .300 WSM. He never knew what hit him. Antelope are a little small for that gun, but I bought the gun for my Oryx hunt next month (on White Sands Missile Range) and wasn't going to try to buy two. The exit hole was bigger than my fist.

Prior to this, I hadn't rifle hunted in about 8 years. I usually hunt elk with a recurve. I got drawn for the antelope and oryx hunts this year, which gave me a good excuse to buy a rifle.

Ditto here. My Deer season starts when it gets cold and ends when it warms up. Which is very convenient when you factor in being deployed during the legal season. Two hundred Meter walk out the Back Door and I am in my stand. I will be home in two weeks. I have my kid throwing out deer corn every morning for the last three weeks. He says every time he walks down there he spooks a bunch of Deer. This will be his first year hunting. Can't wait until he gets his first Deer. He is nine and a good shot but I think I will have him use a shotgun from the Deer Stand.. Don't want him to miss on his first opportunity. He keeps asking to hunt with my M-4, next it will be a grenade. Last year I set up one of those digital motion sensor cameras. They are great for telling you feeding time. Where I live they mostly feed mid afternoon. Just walk down there with the Lap Top and connect it and see whats been in the area. Anyone ever hunt with .223 and if so what type of round did you use.

I personally haven't had a chance to get into the woods this year, (job transfer) but my dad bagged a nice buck a few weeks ago near LBL. I'm looking forward to the deer in Mississippi, as the deer here in NW Florida are quite a bit smaller than the animals I grew up hunting in Indiana.

It won't be long here in West Virginia, rifle season is just around the corner. The spot I've picked out , shows a lot of rubs and activity. Can't wait!!

I had a tough time getting out of town last weekend. This was the first opening day that I've missed in 10 years... work was crawling all over me.

That being said, I put in for vacation a month ago for Monday and Tuesday. I saw a small basket 8pt in a swamp bottom. I decided to let it walk in hopes that it will be bigger next season. Hopefully the club next door doesn't get a shot on it. I might hunt the swamp some with my 7yo son and let him take it if we see it.

A good friend of mine's 15yo son nailed a 19" 10pt at 0900 on opening morning. We've collectively been hunting that deer for 3 years now. It's been making a scrape along the woodline of a peanut field every year. That was his first big deer. Couldn't have happened to a nicer kid. He's a great hunter, athlete and straight-A student.

Not to be outdone, his father shot a 20" 10pt that evening in our swamp.

I can't wait to knock down a few when work lets up. They're hitting rut here and should be for the next 10 or so days.
