Hello,

I was directed to this site via an advertisement I received through military.com for the book, "Getting Selected." I am a 22 year old College First DEP who is considering an 18x contract.

This site has been an incredible resource, and I ordered the book expecting more of the same useful knowledge. The accessibility of this information has been very helpful in deciding whether the SF lifestyle is what I want to pursue.

My sincere gratitude for the dual service you gentlemen perform to our country and to the young hopefuls who aspire to become men like yourselves. Thank you for allowing me to be your guest here.

This is my fourth post and I apologize for not making this my first post.

My name is Jeff and I am an 18X waiting to ship 20060328. I have enough savings to take time off from the first of the year to when I ship so all I am doing is reading, training, reading, training...you get the idea. I am 27 and am very content that I didn't sign up right after highschool. I want to use my college and life-experience to drive my maturity to good use in my SF future. I have been an EMT for over 2 years and have studied a wide variety of "things" in college-mostly health related: Sports Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Physical Education and so on. I hope to use that background to amp up my odds of becoming an 18D.

Thank you for allowing me into your world.
Jeff

Hello, everyone.

I've been reading the forums for some months now, since following a link from an SF soldier's weblog. To a civilian like me, fascinated with Special Forces, this site is an incredible resource. Through it, moreover, I found and ordered "Get Selected," which answered many more of my questions.

I'm a professor. I teach; I run a research group. And I am acutely aware of the debt I owe those who put themselves on the line to protect everything I hold dear. After I fulfill my commitments to my researchers, I intend to join the Army, and I hope very much to wear the Green Beret one day. My relatively advanced age–I'll be nearly 34 when I join–makes the odds even steeper than they would be already, but I will give it my level best. In the meantime, I will be working to max the APFT (getting there!) and teach myself Farsi (just started).

I'll be asking a few questions, but mostly I plan to keep reading. My thanks to the hosts of this site, and to all the veterans reading it.

My first post

Thank you for your service and this resource. The professionalism on this site is inspiring.

I found an article that I would like to post in the Africa section of Area Studies. I will refrain from posting until I receive permission.

Thanks again and have a great day.

Well, I'm not a moderator or admin but you made your first post in the right area. Be sure to read the stickies and directives, be respectful and I'm guessing there won't be a problem with you posting the article.

Welcome everyone!

Greetings All

Good friend of mine suggested that I take a look at this site. Many of my colleagues are former SF, and all have demonstrated that trait for which your esteemed group have collectively demonstrated throughout the years: quiet professionals. Good to be here and if any of you have business out at Langley or are in the area, feel free to drop me a pm.

Hello one and all

Thanks for letting me log on to this great site. It has a wealth of knowledge and even some humor thrown in.
I'm retired Army; flew AH1's, C-12's and UC-35s (citations) before getting on with the airlines. I'm also currently a federal LEO in the same occupation.
I have a great deal of respect for the SF community at large, and am especially fascinated by the work done by them in Afganistan. I have a number of friends in the 160th and by trying to follow the "special ops" aspects of the war I was led to this site, which is outstanding.

This is for this being my second post.
