Introduction

Hello,
My name is Joel, I'm 23 years old, out of college for a year, and will be signing an 18x contract in May. In the mean time, I'm busy prepping myself (mostly) phsyically and mentally. I'm 5'9", 150 lbs. Pt score of about 230 and working for 300.
I've been lurking around this site for about a month, observing and learning. I was a previous lurker at ar.com when I was interested in an Option 40. I soon realized that I would much rater be SF and found a good site to guide me on the right path.
I've learned a ton from GET SELECTED! by Maj. Martin and from all of the QP's on this site. Thanks for the time you spend in sharing your wisdom.

Hello All

Hi,
I have been thinking about and training for SF for quite a bit of my college career. Over the past summer I met a professor from the NPS while waiting on him and his wife and chatted with him for a bit. Somehow we ended up talking SF and eventually that lead to him having an SF Major, a ret. SF Colonel, and a SEAL call and talk to me about SOF life. From that I have been put in touch with someone (obviously I am not putting real names up on the net) at Ft. Bragg who is a SF hero and he has the local recruiter taking care of what I need to do to sign up for 18X-ray.

The other half of my life is that I am a senior at college and will know where I stand with the medical schools I have applied to soon. Now in my heart I want to go SF, I just need to have a hard talk with the rents that I will be giving up a paid for ticket to medical school if I get in, which they think is nuts... and I could see why. I have talked with them a bit, but I think they are in denial. They are not anti army or anything, but they don't understand how I could want to give up a life of relative comfort for one with many more inherent dangers.

So thats where I am. Now I am training, up at 0530 before classes each day to run or sprint then hit the gym before my 0800 classes. Got back from a 20 mi. hike this weekend with 80 lbs in the ruck.

Also, as fate would have it my roommate for all 4 years of college who I was randomly paired with in the first year dreamed to be a SEAL, and was accepted to the Naval Academy, but then DQ'd for childhood asthma. He is also going to go SF if he can get through medically, since he has not suffered from asthma since he was under 13. He is getting doctors notes and such together for when we go to the physical soon.

Cheers,
-Dub

You guys have given me the inspiration to go foward to accomplish my goals.Your bravery is unmatched.Thank you for the information and usefull stickies,I'm sure I could make use of them when I"m ready for SFAS.THANKS

Hey, thanks for havin' me. Been looking around the site for a while and sucking up all the great info. Probably won't post much, as my experience is minimal, but thought I'd introduce myself anyway. I enlisted into the guard 4 years ago and took a commission into the aviation branch almost 2 years ago. I'm just getting finished with flight school (UH-60's) and think I have more to offer. After getting one of the first SERE level C classes here at Rucker I'll be home and going to Air Assault school this summer. I've always thought about SF and now I'm just putting together more info. At 32 I need to shit or get off the pot if I'm going to make a go at it, and next year would be the dsired year group to come in commissioned (05). Thought I'd see if anybody had advice or experience going to SF from AV. Thanks for providing the excellent resource.

Start by reading the stickies and filling in your profile.

Generically, the Army frowns on taking people they just spent several million dollars teaching how to fly and then spending several more million making them an SF officer.

Thank you for letting me join your site it has provided me with answers to my many SF questions. I have decided to pursue an active duty commission in the infantry with aim of one day becoming an SF soldier. While at New Mexico Military Institute I had a squadron leadership advisor who was a former Green Beret who spurred my interest. I have not fully explored your site so I will reframe from asking questions. If I am able to branch IN I am told my schools are as follows BCT>OCS>BOLCII>OBC>BAC>Ranger School. If anyone has any guidance or information on what my course of action should be to attend selection I would be very appreciative. Thank you, Richard
