I didn't read the entire thread, so the answer may be staring me in the face...But, since I have grown too fat, what "skinny" beers, lowered caloric content are recommended?
I had a couple of Becks Light on a flight recently, fairly wimpy taste, but at 64 calories...

Depending what I am trying to accomplish:
Coors light/Lonestar light/Miller light:GP hot weather swill.
Heineken light/Shiner light: these I am pretty much indifferent, take it or leave it.
My favorite is Amstel light for actual drinking purposes, the previous mentioned are just fodder.

I never realized there were so many 'diet' beers out there. I might have to try a few (excluding any miller, coors, bud, pabst, hamms)

Why did Sam Adams Light not make the list? (oh, because it's a domestic commercial light I'll drink, sorry, answered my own question)
from my experience, unless I'm dying of thirst in the desert (and there is no water) somebody has to pay me big bucks to drink the below (and yes, I've actually tried them all over the course of many years):

Beck Made a very nice Near beer. I think it was named Haack. A friend, because of health issues drank the stuff, introduced it to me. It is great on a hot day when one has to work with machinery, reloading, shooting. Very refreshing with out the worry of loosing body parts.
I really love the taste of water so I stay away from water that tastes like beer.

Found a new one - Cricket Hill IPA - brewed in NJ, very hoppy, but not overly malty.
And did some Magic Hat - really good stuff too - brewed up in COL M's area.

OOPS! Thanks for the info, Christophe. I should've known, when I asked the bartender is this the beer brewed by the Trappist Monks, and he responded with a blank stare. I remarked to my wife, that's OK, I'll just go back to this thread and get the real skinny! 
I saw the Chimay at the local Total Wine store over the weekend, and I should probably pick up some and try it at the proper temperature. However, and this will probably get me banned from this thread, after working in London for a summer several years ago, I told myself I'm never drinking near-room temperature beer again.

Has anybody here aver been to Brisbane Australia and had Castlemaine XXXX Lager? The Aussies called it lunitic stew. It won't make any gourmet beer lists but I really liked it. At least I thnk I liked it. I don't really have clear memories of that time. I did discover that if you go to a bar in Brisane and order a Fosters people will look at you funny. I never saw an Australian drinking fosters and eventually someone told me that the only peoplein Australia who drink Fosters are old men from the country and American Tourists.

Trappist beers ROCK
1. Westmuller Double (dark)
2. Westmuler Triple (light beer but higher alcohol content)
3. Westvleteren I haven't had this one yet as the monks have quite selling for a while, but I will reserve a case as soon as they start selling again. I am told the 12% beer they make is out of this world.
And when I say light I don't mean the calories. The joke is there's a loaf of bread in every bottle.
Hmmmm all this beer talk is making me thirsty. I think I'll go have a Westmuller. Man do I love Europe!
