Influential Books List for QP

Granted, my team time is a blink compared to the majority of the FOGs here , I would like to start a thread of books that have helped, enhanced, or improved the lives of those QP's who have read them. I'll start this bad boy--

1) Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein-- Yea, yea... the movie was a pile of cat shit soaked in monkey piss, BUT the book was an excellent glimpse into the perspective of an elite warrior. I was recommended this book by an excellent cadre while in SOPC Course (Spec. Op. Preparation and Conditioning--18x Pre-SFAS) Read it in a week.

2) On Killing by Dave Grossman-- Well known and strongly recommended by most veterans who have read it. I had this book for a few years before I finally started it. I read it on my way out of Iraq and it soothed some of my mental and emotional pains more than words could express. Enough said.

3) Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card-- Another kiddy-fiction book, I know. I thought the same thing, but I quickly realized that this book is one of the best fictional books on leadership I've came across. The author has an uncanny ability to convey the emotions and mental burdens of a messianic leader. I would recommend this book to anyone with, or without leadership experience.

Honorable Mention (in an unrelated topic ) Liberalism is a Mental Disorder by Michael Savage-- The title says it all. Complete with well documented examples, news stories, and scathing remarks. Reminded me why socialism will never, ever work outside of fantasy.

Looking forward to what the true veterans recommend!

For our current commitment to the Middle East, read 'The Arabs' by Sir Anthony Nutting. For general UW knowledge, read Chairman Mao's 'Little Red Book'. For woodcraft and field skills, read the "The Foxfire Book" ...

OK Guys - Check out the "Library" in the At Ease Forum. There's already enough on this subject. BTW - The search button has all of your titles already listed, discussed, etc.

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.
