In the tales that emerged from 7 October, there was only one Kibbutz among many that managed to access a "weapons locker" and kicked ass to rally their members and successfully defend their camp. Israel has had, to my mind, a policy of limiting firearms ownership in stark contrast to their oft-stated resolve to survive in the face of constant persecution. Long application & approval processes thwart the average citizen that isn't involved in the security of schools, shopping centers, or being under presumption of threat, etc.
They are apparently
taking steps to fix that. Unlike the US with nearly half the households having a gun, until recently it was only about 2.5% in Israel.
