My niece is travelling home from London
She has been attending St Mary's in London for her masters, but is now coming home.
Flying through Newark on Saturday. Not thrilled since it's so close to NY but what can you do.
She'll obviously take as many precautions as possible but beyond the obvious (staying as far away from folks in the airports, once home staying in her room, will have a designated bathroom, disinfecting etc etc. for a few weeks) are there any other guidelines or suggestions anyone would care to share?

I certainly understand your concern, someone very close had to exfil out of NY when all the colleges were closed... just so you know, the nick name “Snake Plissken” is already taken...
Best to your niece she will probably be wound pretty tight, pizza might just be the thing.

She’ll probably be fine but...
Why not fly into Houston/Dallas and avoid NY/NJ. How much difference in cost? Are the connections limited, I wouldn’t think so, maybe even better.
The planes are super light so getting your own row or section is likely. I hope so for her. Do what she can to stay clear of anyone appearing to be sick. Including flight attendants. Use sanitizing wipes on seat, arm rests, tray table and back of seat ahead and tv screen.
Same goes for once landing and clearing customs. Keep space around yourself. The airports are nearly ghost towns so once she is clear of customs she should be okay to her connection.
Other than that, well...wash hands often and use sanitizer, avoid touching face, wear a mask if she has one and avoid coughing people.
It’s sort of a good time to be a germ-a-phobe while using public transport. No one will care.
Best of luck to her and pizza does sound good after being in the U.K.

This is really good advice. And please get her to wear a facemask. I know its not cool but...anything measure helps.
Please get her to also bring spare wipes to clean the seats, arm rest, table on the aircraft before she sits and to dispose of the used wipes in a plastic bag and to keep separately to dispose of.
These little things do make a difference.

You just described my retired life! Well, I grew a mustache and beard so it's hard not to touch my face.

sounds squared away Gypsy. Make sure she's quarantined for 2 weeks. Give her a basic thermometer and list of symptoms (cough, sorethroat, difficulty breathing, loss of taste, fever) to pay attention to.
Per DC MED guidance, if she shows no symptoms after 10 days then it's very unlikely she has contracted anything. On the flip side, the same symptoms for 2 weeks+ without worsening (i.e. daily runny nose, sore throat) suggests different etiology

What do you call that small device you can attach to the finger to check your oxygen readings?

LOL Definitely pizza will be on the menu.  My brother is OCD over this so she will be isolated for a minimum of 2 wks. Good advice on taking her temp daily as well.
Old Dog New Trick, it's too late to change her flights I am not sure when she booked but it is what it is. I think because my brother lives in Indy it might have been direct flight to NJ and then to IN. Hopefully the planes and the airports will be fairly empty.

Hey, ma'am. One thing my Chief of Staff and I have actually done (besides little projects we found time for) is to take a bit more time & care in preparing of meals. (Pizza gets old faster than she thinks.) We're pretty much just voluntarily hunkered down & being retired and well-stocked always it's no big deal. But taking small tasks & cooking together and doing them "just right" has made for some leisurely dining and - hey - not like we're running out to catch a movie or anything and ain't nobody callin' us in to work.

Thanks! Both my nieces (sisters) love to cook. I'm sure once her quarantine is over they will be doing a lot of cooking as a family!
