Sometimes I wonder, why bother doing the right thing?
I've called 911 when appropriate ~11 times and the TIQ ( turd in question ) gets away every time.
Now this. IMHO, this rates a 7 out of 10 on the WTFO scale.
Someone got my ATM information ( including security code ) and ordered something online. Yes, I'm anal about that kind of info although this particular bank's web page
has been hacked twice that I use in the last 4 months that I know of.
I spot the purchase online ~24 hours later and call the online store. Even though it ships in my name and with my stolen ATM #, the fraud experts at this electronics web site ( in Florida ) won't give me any info. The background noise on the phone sounded like I was calling "Mojito Manny's" in the Florida Keys. Real professionals. And their story keeps changing as to what I need to do.
In about an hour, got a
little info as to where it's shipped, when it's going to be delivered, the two people allegedly involved and 2 of their alleged partners in crime, what their name is, phone #, where they live, where 3 of them currently work, how long they worked for a local gov. contractor as senior software engineers, color pictures, etc.
I give this "report" to the local popo and remind them several times that the evidence
will be delivered tomorrow!
Local detective calls me this afternoon and I ask about the arrest. "Huh?"
You know, I told the officer about the delivery date, over and over again, verbally and in writing and how fun it would be to be there?
"Uh, oh, no." Oh, great. Just what we need.
I pleasantly said it seems it would have been a great opportunity (
) to catch them in the act, as it were.
So he then splains how the Grand Jury will look at it 3-4 weeks and he reminds me that this sort of thing is rarely successful as to making it stick. At this point, I'm thinking where I would like to make it stick.
To add insult to injury, I suggested several ways that "we" might make it work, AND I COULD ABSOLUTELY TELL THAT HE HADN'T CONSIDERED THE OPTIONS I WAS SUGGESTING.
Oooh, yes, that's a good idea, he said.
Yes, I know, the yes-but monkeys will opine that there are murders and rapes and other things far more important and that's true.
I just thought maybe, just maybe, this might be a bigger organization that was in operation here.
I handed the police a nice package with a red ribbon on it and they blew it.
But, in the station, they had
plenty of time to unload the new PC's for the office and the "Toys for Tots" stuff, and stand around and talk about it while I wait over an hour to talk to someone.
BTW, on the delivery day, it was fun to watch the UPS van drive into the apartment complex from a gas station ~200 feet away, only imagining what was happening in the back where I couldn't see the "action".
