The kids are coming home for Christmas this year so I decided to bake a cake.

3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
¾ cup Dutch cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking powder
Grated rind of 4 oranges
2 cups unsalted butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
¾ cup lukewarm water
¾ cup milk
FILLING
1 ½ cups apricot preserves
FROSTING
¼ cup vegetable shortening
4 Oz unsweetened chocolate
3 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
7 tablespoon milk
½ cup sliced almonds
