TR, you can keep IE. You can even open both at the same time. I've only run into this rarely, but sometimes when you are accessing a site that has been optimized for IE, Firefox will have some problems with it. For example, I use Lexis/Nexis for school. It won't open correctly in Firefox, and the help desk won't help b/c they don't support it. Other than that, I always use Firefox.
I read that Firefox is based on the old Netscape code, which is funny b/c I hated Netscape.
