U.S. Army to Issue Throwback Uniforms
I'd re-up just this for this.
Quote:
U.S. Army to Issue Throwback Uniforms to Commemorate D-Day Anniversary
For the first time ever, members of the U.S. Army will be celebrating the past with the issuing of throwback uniforms for all soldiers currently serving in both theater and garrison.
Army officials say that they will be timing the issuing of throwback uniforms to commemorate with the D-Day Invasion anniversary which occurred on June 6, 1944. The move is already being greeted with mixed results, one thing is for certain, the excitement this announcement has made can not be ignored.
The throwback uniforms are part of larger Army initiatives aimed at bridging past and current soldiers. LTC Denny Thompson, PM Soldier, said the uniforms, “are the quintessential item that all soldiers, regardless of era, can relate to – we all wear the same color; Army Green!”
In addition to authentic period uniforms, soldiers in theater will be reissued the venerable M1 Garand .30 caliber rifle to replace the current M4 carbine. A soldier we spoke to, SGT Dervin of the 10th Mountain Division, Ft. Drum, told us, “at least the weapons will kill shit…”
Soldiers are advised to turn in uniform and boot sizes to their local company supply by no later than December 1, 2012. Word is these will go quickly so soldiers are advised to put in their request for uniforms sooner than later to ensure they receive them in time.
We are excited to hear what more soldiers think of this great idea to celebrate the past. As always we will keep you up to date on this breaking story.
