PRESS RELEASE: 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Soldiers to receive valor awards

7th Special Forces Group Public Affairs Office

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, July 13, 2010) – The 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) will present 38 Bronze Star medals with “V” device, 30 Purple Heart Medals and 44 Army Commendation Medals with “V” device during a valorous awards presentation ceremony July 16 at Fort Bragg, N.C.

The valor award ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. in the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School auditorium located at 3004 Ardennes Street, Fort Bragg, N.C.

The Bronze Star is the Army’s fourth-highest award for combat valor and is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States during military operations.

Maj. Gen. Michael S. Repass, commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Forces Command, will preside over the ceremony and present the awards.

Media inquiries may be directed to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Public Affairs Office at (910) 432-6005 or by email at pao@soc.mil.

Special Forces Soldiers, including recipients of valorous awards, will be available for interviews following the ceremony for media who have properly coordinated with the 7th Group PAO.

Members of the media who wish to cover the ceremony must register with USASOC PAO by July 14 before 5 p.m. Please provide the number of news team members, video/still photographers, live trucks and other special equipment you plan to bring to the ceremony.

Media planning live coverage during or after the program must provide that information to the PAO when responding to this invitation.

Special needs or interview requests should be submitted at this time as well. Media should meet representatives of PAO at noon on July 16 at Stryker Golf Course on Bragg Boulevard. The media convoy will depart Stryker no later than 12:15 p.m. PAO representatives will also escort live trucks in that convoy.
