call this 'I learned it the hard way'..........
check your bag but if it is loaded with 'valuable' equipment, i.e., things that are not readily available or difficult/expensive to replace, bring it to the counter and insist someone sign for it. I do this for firearms or my tac-med equipment when I travel.
They get a copy of what they are signing for...usually the counter person says no so I ask to have the manager come foward....this way anything lost is their responsibility and I have an accountability trail so I can get full replacement value if it is lost or stolen.
Otherwise, just check the bag with needles,scalpels, etc.
