spherojon,

I was going to see it tonight, but held off to see how others on here reviewed it, especially after I read this today: http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/artic...12/story.jhtml

Kurt Loder of MTV is usually a relatively liberal reviewer, so when he said this I had to wonder:

"It's also a little odd that the most vicious character in the movie is a U.S. Special Forces officer named Briggs...while the fugitive Al Rawi (Igal Naor), the man who holds the key to the WMD puzzle, is considerably more sympathetic..."

Kurt also talks about the shaky cam thing:

"And Greengrass [the director], who forged a powerful action style out of hand-held camera work in the second and third "Bourne" movies, here goes totally over to the shaky-cam side. There's not one stable shot in the whole movie — even a scene with two guys talking at a table is filmed as if there were a riot going on."

Did that shaky-cam thing bother you??

I thought it was good. Good as far as an action movie with an ok story. As far as the military being portrayed in a completely accurate way I dont think so, but I don't have first hand knowledge so ymmv. The shaky cam didn't bother me.

I think it beat the Borne Sequals but not the original.

There were some expected movie flaws that I caught, such as optics being on guns that I wouldn't expect them to be on. ACOG on an MP5.(Perhaps some people would use that I just don't know what the advantage would be). That same optic is portrayed to be nightvision and have a red dot rather than the chevron or crosshair. Helicopter surveillance that can identify a friendly from a target without any type of indicator. (that may very well be real correct me if incorrect).

Overall though I didn't feel ripped off for my $6.50 and it was an enjoyable way to spend two hours with the girl.

After some others see it, I am curious to see how they thought of the way SF was portrayed. They seemed to fit the mold that hollywood usually reserves for SEALs.

Those damn Warrant Officers get to do EVERYTHING they want!
No one plays dedicated and devoted (and surprised at his own abilities) as well as Matt Damon.

From picking up and leafing through the book they don't appear to have that much in common. But then neither did the Bourne series.

It was so bad I don't even know where to start.

ETA: This movie is anti-American and one long slur against SOF.

"Alice" leads box office, as "Green Zone" flops

Sun Mar 14, 2:29 pm ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – "Alice in Wonderland" raced to a $430 million haul at the worldwide box office on Sunday, while Matt Damon's new Iraq war conspiracy thriller "Green Zone" was one of the year's first big flops.

Director Tim Burton's 3D remake of "Alice" led the field for a second weekend after earning $138 million during the three days beginning on Friday, said distributor Walt Disney Co.

Moviegoers in the United States and Canada chipped in $62 million, a drop of just 47 percent from its opening weekend, and the total North American tally for "Alice" stood at $208.6 million. The foreign total rose to $221 million after a $76 million weekend in 48 markets.

"Green Zone" opened at a distant No. 2 in North America with $14.5 million. Distributor Universal Pictures, which axed its top executives last fall after a poor run at the box office, had hoped for a slightly better showing.

"It's a bit of a disappointment," said Nikki Rocco, president of distribution at the General Electric Co unit.

Feedback on the film from the "military advisor" that helped make it can be seen HERE

Excuses, excuses.

He got used, just like most military people who try to work with Hollywood.

Too bad he wasn't smart enough to figure that out ahead of time.

I had watched it and the thing that really in a sense "annoyed" me was the quote that one of the "QP's" had said was "Have a nice Fu****g war." That portrayed QP's in such a negative light right there. that and the entire scuffle scene.

Oh and that shaky filming. It felt like the filming was just some guy running aroung with a camera mounted on from of a M4.

Oh I know it def looked like some Triple Canopy or "Xe" guys but Matt Damon says they are "SF" during the movie multiple times. I also thought it was funny because the pilots were from the 101st.

I personally lent a hand in the recount of that scuffle scene. Every time we acquired a HVI, secret squirrels show up, we argue, then I get my ass beat or something like that. No wait, I lied. Completely. That never happened. Ever. Allow me to demonstrate that conversation in real life.

Me (grunt): Roger we have the HV... whoa. Dude check out those guys rolling in.
Buddy: Yeah, they look pretty cool.
Highspeed type: Hey, this dude is ours now. Good job, thanks a lot.
Me: Wow you guys are awesome! Yeah here you go, this dude smells bad FYI. What kind of NODS are those?
Highspeed: The PVS... wanna check em out?
Me: Hell yeah! Aw dude these things are sweet.
Highspeed: Yeah, they are. Want a power bar? We get em for free.
Me: Sure! Thanks.
Highspeed: Alright bro, we gotta go. See ya later.
Me: Later!

Conversation ensues about 'how much we know' about those guys and 'our friends brother's did worked construction with a guy who said he was'.
