McCann or MARS rail for PVS22

Any of you fellas have any comments good or bad about these SWS rail systems?

The following comments are obvious observations to anyone that has ever seen or used them.

However, I was curious if any of you had any applicable comments before making an agency purchase that I will only have one shot at.

McCann seems heavy and awkward but is solid. One may or may not need the side rails however ... and they are non-removeable.

MARS has removable side rails but is it proven yet? Sturdy?

Designed / built by Marty Bordsen of Badger Ordnance so it should be GTG. Just don't know anyone using them yet extensively.

Brian, how soon do you need to make the decision. We are just getting ready to look at the MARS but have no experience right now.

The McCann works but is high and the original does not have any cant you will need the shims for it to work with the M3LR style scope. I feel that the McCann is too high on the receiver and this has a negative effect. I do not know how hight he MARS sets so will have to wait before passing judgement on that one.

There is another choice but I need to get better info on that one before I broach that mount to you. If you can hold off a bit I will let you know how I feel about the systems.

Rick

Edited to add that I like the idea of being able to mount the wings in different locations for the attachments but do not know yet how solid they are.

It can wait a while.

I have been assured that I will have 4 UNS / (maybe MUNS) coming via Homeland Security Buffer Zone monies for my guys. They are badly needed.

I will believe it when they are sitting on my guys sticks.

Someone ??? Can't remember who ... said the MARS was a tad flexible whereas the McCann is not. I hate to even say that as I have no personal knowledge in that regard and Marty's product may simply rock the house. His stuff usually does.

May have been the guys at Omar McCall Assoc. speaking of that.

The MARS is a lot sleeker design and I saw them on Marty's bench when they were newly born (last Sept.)

Remington MPD had them out next to our booth at SHOT SHOW this year as well. A whole case of them ... just sitting there ... but I digress.

They look like they will be the heat but you know how it goes ...

Thanks for the response.

Actually, the MARS is way more flexible then the McCann. The wings on the McCann is fixed, and the right side is next to the ejection port. This will be a problem when mounting a fixture, it can interfer with the ejection port. Not speculation, fact. With the moveable wings the MARS gets high points, question, how stable, that is the point we need to look at.

The MUNS may be a bit big and heavy for your needs and I would look at the DUNS if you can hold off a bit on that purchase.

Edited due to really lousy typing.

Roger that.

When I said flexible, I actually meant it literally.

As in the MARS is not as rigid a fixture as the McCann. Dunno about that though. Can't imagine Marty not thinking that one through.

We are shooting AIs and they are heavy enough.

We do not really need built in MOA. Lighter and sleeker is better for us LE guys.

Copy DUNS.

Ah yes, flexing as in shaking and waving.

Again, do not know. Will see what happens. I have not really looked at it close up yet but will let you know what a 300 Win Mag does to the sucker.
