Once JTRS is implemented it will be great. The cost however is keeping some units from going to it right now.

I'm aware of one project using the above handheld to talk to MBITRs mounted on aircraft.

Did Harris buy out Thales or the other way around? I have it in my head they are owned by the same company and I couldn't find anything on their websites about this.

Looks like someone is trying to break into the MBITR market. It has a few more functions than the MBITR, but I doubt we will see these. The army has invested entirely too much money into the 148's, to go to something else.

The AF is implementing JTRS to replace the XTS 3000 and 5000 HH's from Motorola. AT least JTRS is backwards compatible with the MBITR.
