747 Load Imbalance

Here's what happens after take off if the aircraft load is out of balance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNOD...r_embedded#t=0

Many moons ago a JAL 747 freighter departing out of Anchorage, AK loaded with live cattle had a pallet break loose and go through the side of the aircraft on takeoff. The results were the same. I saw a Lufthansa 747 freighter in Frankfurt with it's nose up due to misdeclared weight on a shipment. They had a hell of a time trying to figure out how they were going to get the nose back down without damaging the aircraft.

When I was a new Dispatcher at Western, I was getting checked out on the Hawaii Desk when I got a call from a DC-10 en route to Honolulu saying that they had a trim malfunction that was causing them to porpoise. We had MX waiting when they arrived but a ramp rat found that a container had not been locked down and it was free to roll back and forth on the tracks. Our 10s actually had lower lobe galleries with easy access to the baggage area had anyone thought to look.
