It is a great thing that today is Thanksgiving Day. Great food, with great family and friends, never mind the NFL Games. But these activities today should never overshadow past events on this date in 1963.

Remember this date November 22 1963. President John F Kennedy was shot and killed. President Kennedy has a special place in the hearts of the US Army Special Forces Soldiers. Past and Present. Rest In Peace Mr President. Your service and sacrifice is not forgotten.

The assignation was the 9-11 of my youth and the "where were you?" for my generation. The equivalent of Pearl Harbor or V-Day for my parents.
I was a second grader at a Catholic school in Colorado Springs. It was a cool, rainy day. i was in the second seat of the second row closest to the door; we were doing an arithmetic worksheet. Sister/Principal came in and said something to our lay teacher who started to cry. We were stood up and marched to the chapel where we said the Rosary.

Senior in high school. Skipped school that day to go deer hunting. Had gone back to my car to get a bite to eat and heard the news on the radio. Packed up, went home, and watched TV for the next four days. Was watching live TV when Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald in the parking garage. Turned our whole world upside down back then.

Cuban missile crisis and JFK assassination are how I remember that period of my life, too - I was in Mrs Shelton's 7th grade class when we got the word of the President being shot - announced his death while we were at lunch in the cafeteria - the buses came right after lunch and took us home - the following week was Thanksgiving and our schools were closed the whole week because of the events of that Fri-Mon.

RIP, Mr President.

I was a freshman at Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton, California. I was in Mr Hewitson's Spanish I class.

When you view the archival footage of the President's caisson making its way to his final resting place, take note of the honor guard escort around the wagon. You'll see a few guys there wearing berets.
