Disrespect at Tomb of Unknown Soldier
Gentlemen,
Did a quick search and did not see this posted. From unknown to hated by a nation in 24 hours. Picture is located in the link bellow.
Quote:
BOSTON (CBS) – Two women have been placed on unpaid leave from their jobs after their photo at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia angered thousands of people on Facebook.
Lindsey Stone was visiting the Tomb of the Unknowns last month on a business trip when she posed for a picture next to a sign that reads “silence and respect.”
In the photo, Stone is pretending to yell and she’s showing her middle finger.
The photo, taken by a co-worker, went viral and sparked thousands of angry comments.
Some of those comments were posted on the Facebook page of their employer, Living Independently Forever, Inc.,(LIFE) a non-profit organization in Hyannis that helps adults with disabilities on Cape Cod.
The uproar forced the organization to post this statement Tuesday afternoon:
“On Nov. 19 at approximately 6 p.m., we became aware that one of our employees had posted an offensive, inappropriate photograph on her personal Facebook page. The photo was taken at a national historic site in October by a fellow employee during a trip to Washington, D.C. attended by 40 residents and eight staff. The photo has since been removed from Facebook, and both employees have been placed on unpaid leave pending the results of an internal investigation.
This photograph in no way reflects the opinions or values of the LIFE organization, which holds our nation’s veterans in the highest regard. We are proud to have veterans serving on our staff and board of trustees, and we value their service. The men and women who have selflessly fought and sacrificed their lives to protect the rights and lives of Americans deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. We are acutely aware that this photo has done a disservice to veterans and we are deeply saddened that it was taken and shared in a public medium.”
WBZ-TV has reached out to Stone and her co-worker for comment, but has not heard from them yet.

Her Facebook page has been swarmed with ill-wishers.
That's probably the only negative consequences she will receive. She will be applauded by some and protected by others, especially in her neck of the woods.
EDIT: I stand corrected! Maybe I should read the actual posted story Looks like her company stomped her. I predict she will find a job at the Daily Kos in a few weeks.

The company she works for has been hit with a slew of comments as well -- mine included.
I am glad to see the company has taken the actions noted in the article.

Apperently this story has gone International.
Quote:
U.S. woman suspended from job after posting controversial Facebook photo at Tomb of the Unknowns
Lindsey Stone was placed on unpaid leave after posting a photo of herself raising her middle finger at the Tomb of the Unkowns
Two Massachusetts women have been suspended from their jobs after one of them posted a Facebook photo showing her raising a middle finger and pretending to shout at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.
Lindsey Stone posed next to a sign that read "Silence and Respect" in the photo that was shot by a colleague while on a business trip. After posting the pic to Facebook, she received several angry comments.
Stone replied, "Whoa whoa whoa... wait. This is just us, being the douchebags that we are, challenging authority in general. Much like the pic posted the night before, of me smoking right next to a no smoking sign. OBVIOUSLY we meant NO disrespect to people that serve or have served our country."
The apology wasn't enough for some Facebook users, who created a "Fire Lindsey Stone" page. Others posted angry comments on the Facebook page of LIFE, the Cape Cod-based non-profit where Stone works.
On Tuesday, LIFE announced that Stone and her co-worker "have been placed on unpaid leave pending the results of an internal investigation."
"This photograph in no way reflects the opinions or values of the LIFE organization, which holds our nation's veterans in the highest regard."
