Bringing Work Home with Me

Morning,
I am currently out and about on an extended "vacation". When I get back I'd like to replicate as closely as possible what I use at work and since I have nothing but the utmost respect for the folks here, I figured I would bounce my ideas/get some input here.
My reason for doing this is that in the event of something happening I don't want to have complete confidence in my abilities to handle my weapons. Unfortunately I don't get many opportunities to shoot with my squadron. I already purchased a Beretta 92FS and shoot with that frequently when my schedule allows. When I get back I'd like to build an M-4(gery) as close as I can to what I get issued. I've already tracked down the optic we use so my question is which version of the hundreds on the market are closest in terms of quality/performance to the M4 I get issued?

As a forewarning I just came off shift so my search-fu may not be up to par. Thanks for your input in advance.

Check out Bravo Company. I have an upper from them that I am very pleased with. They also sell all the other parts and gadgets to bring your rifle up to specs. LMT makes good stuff too as well as Daniel Defense. Valhalla Tactical Supply is a good spot to check out as well, they have the best prices by far that i've found for AR-15 gear. Best of luck

Instead of going with a complete copy (M4 carbine profile), I'd look at a mid length upper with a 16" barrel.

But if you're dead set on a close as you can copy -

or

You'll need to get it pinned with a flash hider that brings the overall length to 16".

Palmetto State Armory is selling lowers right now for $50 +$7 shipping to your FFL.

You'll need a receiver extension (buffer tube) - you can also get this from palmetto state -

+1 for the mid length gas system, its a superior system to the carbine length gas system. Softer recoil, greater reliability, longer bolt life and more rail space on your handgaurd.

@Spitfire34 &koz - thanks for the point in the right direction, it may sound odd but I do want to as closely mirror what I deploy with as I can. If I am building an M-4 then I don't want to get used to owning/using the best gear since that isn't what I take downrange.

@The Reaper - yes sir I did, in fact I've read through it several times and seem to learn something new each time I do, your work is greatly appreciated. Was there information in it that I missed?
