R. A Mazziott-Johnson, 2nd Lt, US Army Nurse Corps., RIP

My Mom quietly passed away yesterday. She had been declining for the last month after a fall in July. She was 89 in March.

After high school, Mom went to nursing school. She graduated in the Spring of 44 and shortly thereafter joined the US Army Nurse Corps.

After basic and a mini-OCS, she was assigned to the 4th ID & stationed at Oliver General Hospital, Augusta, Ga. The hospital was a center for burn and orthopedic injuries.

In the summer of 45, Mom received orders to deploy to the South Pacific. She was on her pre-deployment leave when V-J day occurred.. Her orders were canceled and she was discharged in the Spring of 1946.

Mom's wishes were to be cremated and her ashes scattered. As Mom is a WW II Veteran, I had started the process of planning inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery.

RIP Lt Mazziott, Vaya con Dios..

Life goes on.
There is no start and no stop.
It is a continuous story composed of a series of vignettes
and we get to play a very small part.

A beautiful woman, and a life of service. How wonderful.

May she rest well. Condolences on your loss my friend.

That is our policy.” You ask; What is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory—victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.-Winston Churchill

What a wonderful memory and storyline your mother served for the rest of us veterans. I wish there were more emphasis by journalists, authors, and readers alike on the impact that courageous women like your mother made on the generations after her. Simply outstanding! You must be very proud and understandably so. Great post. Rest in Peace.
