MagicJack

OKay this absolutely nothing to do SF. Politics or anything else usually discussed here. But I thought I would share.

I was in Radio Shack Thursday looking for a battery charger for my digital camera, and while I was waiting for assitance I overheard the salesman talking discussing a product, then I heard 'I cancelled my phone with Time Warner and use my cell but I need a home phone'. That got my attention.

So when my turn came up I asked what the phone gizmo was they were discussing. It is MagicJack the salesperson replied. Does it work? Yes and it is only $19.99 per year. How much is the MagicJack? $39.99.

So I bought one out of curiosity, I plugged into my PC's USB port and in less than 2 minutes I had a phone connection with crystal clear reception for only $19.99 per year.

After my investment of $65 I can save $295 over the first 12 months.

Gool gizmo thus far.

Tested it for work and it does work but ............................
it sometimes has problems. I think it is a growing pains problem but some times their service is all jammed up. It is handy for me in my travels and has saved me a lot of personnel money when it comes to calling various numbers vice my Skype when I just want to talk to family. It lets me be more flexible as it does not tie me to calling a computer like when I use skype. Might be a good deployment aid to phone service back to the HQ6. Nothing is perfect but it does work.
Just my 2 cents......

For such a low price it could definitely be worked into your PACE plan but I'm not a big fan of it for reliable communications.

Of course that's why we have a PACE Plan.

I haven't researched it thoroughly so I'm not sure about the security of it either so you definitely need to take that into consideration if you're deployed.

Of course since we're talking about security, when you're deployed there are things you should do to protect yourself if you're using your personal computer in your team room or in a hotel. Of course that's another thread.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Do not buy their free trials, low cost, or how easy it is to cancel.

I've read those as well, every cell phone company I have every used is in the same boat when it comes to complaints. I had horrible experiences with ATT/Cingular activating options I did not authorize, but others love them.

There is also this.
