Woodford Reserve with Sonoma-Cutrer Finish

I have a bottle of this, and it's interesting. They finish the bourbon in chardonnay barrels supplied by Sonoma-Cutrer. Definitely affects the flavor. I can't decide if I like it or not.

Salemans brought this in yesterday. I liked it. Thought it to be well rounded with a long finish.

Chardonnay,, that's got to be different..

Do you have one of the other Woodford bottlings to compare??

I know the whisky is aged in Port, Sherry, and other more hearty wine casks,, even used American oak whiskey/Bourbon casks..

Does anyone else use white wine casks??

My drink of choice lately has been Woodford, I like it.

Not sure how the Chardonnay would affect the taste though.

It is a little strange. I really go back and forth on whether I like it from glass to glass. And no, I don't just like it after drinking enough of it!

Bought a bottle of George Stagg to try also -- haven't opened it yet. High octane stuff!

I stick to Wild Turkey 101....... That is my main stay and they do not mess with the blend. Their Rare Breed and Rare Barrel are also great. I have a couple of bottles of Woodford Reserve and it is not bad. Have not tried the new one but why mess with a good thing.....

Buffalo Trace has a pretty good blend also. Hell any one from Kentucky is good....

B-- Now I finally know what to send for the up-coming 4th of July holiday!
Either my favorite, Bulleit Burbon (from Kentucky), or some of this Woodford Reserve.

Either way, a good time will be had by all!

I like Woodford reserve and drink it by choice. I'm not sure, i'd pay more $$$ for this new type. Sounds interesting; however, for now I'll stick with the regular version.

Drinking more now. I'm not so crazy about it. Yes it's smooth, but it is just weird. A bit too scotchy, I think. That weird sweet taste.

Well I am home for the week in KY and I went to Versailles, KY to check out the new product...
Took the tour and it was very interesting. I have been to many a distillery and this is very typical of others in KY. Yes I did the tour because you get to sample all (ALL) the bourbons for free. Well I loved all except the Sonoma-Cutrer. It was OK but not for my taste.
I stopped at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, KY on my travels back to Louisville. The tour was Great and the tasting was better. If you have not tried Buffalo Trace you should try it.
Going over to the Austin Nichols Distillery to visit a few friends today and sample some new test blends that the family is looking at. I can not wait. It might be a long day............

Woodford Sir,

Just tried it in a saute of fresh mushrooms with a little clarified butter, and reduced. The product was fantastic, and goes very well over a medium rare grilled filet.
