Great Unknown Music
Sorry but I have a relatively new iPod and so I'm interested in music right now. Name a song (and the band/artist that performs it) that is not widely known but is really good.
Again, I'll start.
Tremolo, Evil Twin.

"Jockey full of Bourbon" & "Tango 'til They're Sore" by Tom Waits
Also there's quite a few songs off his album "Real Gone" that I enjoyed.

Homocide - 999 (might be too punk for you)
Nazi Punks Fuck off - Dead Kennedys
Every time I eat Vegetables, it makes me think of you - Ramones
The KKK took my Baby Away - Ramones
21 Guitar Salute - Dropkick Murphys
anything you can find by Asleep at the Wheel (yes, I'm following punk with country) best album IMHO, Collision Course.
That's enough oddity for this morning

I don't know what you consider "unknown."

Pilgrimage, Nine Inch Nails, The Fragile: When listening to this, try not to imagine Flying Monkeys from Oz marching at a Nuremberg torchlight rally. Seriously weird ("If you have to listen to that, please use your iPod!")
Just Like You Imagined, Nine Inch Nails, The Fragile: This will get you out of the plane door and looking for something to kill with your teeth when you land. I hate it when one of my favorite songs ends up in a commercial. The good news is when the commercial is for the movie 300.
Hurt, Johnny Cash, American IV: a cover of NIN by the master. Not really unknown, but gotta have.
Cold Cold Cold/Tripe Face Boogie, Little Feat, Feats Don't Fail Me Now: Any Little Feat album is good, actually.
St. Teresa, Joan Osborne, Relish: I just like her voice, and it's a poignant song.
Angel from Montgomery, John Prine, Souvenirs: What ever happened to John Prine?
Acid Killer, Infected Mushroom, Isra-Aliens: Techno. Well, it's certainly unknown. Great workout music.
When I Touch You, Spirit, The Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus: moldy oldie, but still good.
Can't Find My Way Home, Blind Faith, Blind Faith
I Can't Make You Love Me, Bonnie Raitt, (I have this on a compilation album): Whew, one of the best heartbreak songs ever written (and perfect grammar - no "him and me" for Bonnie)
Moonlight Mile, The Rolling Stones, Sticky Fingers: never a hit but one of my favorite Stones songs.
The Shins, Wincing the Night Away: If you're trying to keep up with the 21st Century. The Daughter listens to this and its OK. Pop-Pink Floyd.
Any JJ Cale

A Kiwi new to the US
My most favourite artist, Brooke Frazer, we went to the same church, and she hasn't let her local fame go to her head, very humble and telented young lass.
I think you'll love her stuff.

This was one of her first, listen to the rest, very intellegent music
