FORT CARSON, Colo. (USASOC News Service, Mar. 18, 2006) — An Army Special Forces Soldier died Mar. 16, while playing a street hockey game during physical training at Fort Carson , Colo.
Master Sgt. Kevin Snyder , 37, a Special Forces Team Sergeant assigned to 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson , Colo., died from an apparent heart attack.
A native of Coplay, Pa. , Snyder enlisted in the Army in 1988 as a systems repair specialist. After serving with the 112th Military Intelligence Brigade, he volunteered for Special Forces training in 1992 and was selected to become a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant.
After graduating the Special Forces Qualification Course, Snyder was assigned to 10th SFG (Abn.) in Nov. 1994.
While assigned to 10th SFG (Abn.), Snyder deployed in support of multiple missions throughout Europe and Africa.
Snyder’s military education includes the Basic Instructor Course, Basic and Advanced Airborne Course, Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance, Target Analysis and Exploitation C ourse, Czech Language Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course and Primary Leadership and Development Course.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, six Army Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, two Armed Forces Service Medals, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Senior Parachutist Badge and Special Forces Tab.
Snyder is survived by his wife, Carola of Peyton, Colo. , daughter Alexa of Gowanda, N.Y., father Neil of Macungie, Pa. and mother Sandra of Catasauqua, Pa.
