I guess the point I was trying to convey was the over the top rhetoric on “catholics pouring molten lead down the throats of muslims and Jews”, which was quoted on the original post (a CNN report) and repeated in posts 7 and then 8 (adding additional American flair) kinda tweaked me for some reason.

My little story on Kosovo was just anecdotal evidence how a rumor (like I believe the molten lead story to be) reported as fact and repeated over and over can be used as an excuse by others to justify otherwise unacceptable behavior.

Maybe I was a bit over the top and meandered a bit from the gist of the thread. I apologize if that is the case.

As far as I'm concerned you're right on target, you don't need to apologize at all.................

This seems to be a very popular little quote making it's rounds in the left side of cyber-space. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my google-fu has not produced any verifiable sources to back up this story.
I’m finding a whole lotta hits on a Persian Sha Sefi…

To punish smokers in 1628, Sha Sefi punished two merchants for selling tobacco by pouring hot lead down their throats.

I’m willing to bet Sha Sefi didn’t like Skoal, or Copenhagen :-)

OTOH, the Sons of Liberty poured hot tea down Malcolm’s throat. I wonder if they got the idea from Sha Sefi

I am only a yellow belt, so maybe if one of the resident google-fu grand masters can point me to a site (other than the Drudge Retort or Rachel Madow) that tells more of this horror, I would be grateful for the learning experience.

Runcilman's three volume classic History of the Crusades and Tyerman's more recent God's War offer comprehensive resources for this subject - if you have the inclination and the time.

Gutes lesen.

Thanks for the resources Richard.

The historical records show that Islam has always been imperialistic, still is. The evil "crusader you stole our lands" mantra by Islamists have become rather tiresome. After 600+ years of Islamic aggression - the Islamic Crusades - I would ask, who were the Imperialists?

The fiercely Islamic Seljuk Crusaders slaughtered 3000 Christian pilgrams, and 16000 were enslaved at Edessa, and nearly 100,000 Greeks were sent to the Persian slave markets.

Alexius I Comnenus saw the writing on the wall in 1094, and the Crusades to the East were in every way defensive wars; attempts to turn back Muslim aggression and defend against Muslim conquests, the global Jihad... Emperor Alexius Comnenus eventually asks western Christendom for help against Seljuk invasions of his territory, and to his request, Pope Urban had this to say:

Quote:
How does a man love according to divine precept his neighbor as himself when, knowing that his Christian brothers in faith and in name are held by the perfidious Muslims in strict confinement and weighed down by the yoke of heaviest servitude, he does not devote himself to the task of freeing them? ...Is it by chance that you do not know that many thousands of Christians are bound in slavery and imprisoned by the Muslims, tortured with innumerable torments?
The Muslim Crusades started 4 centuries before the Christian Crusades. Contrasted with the ministry of Jesus, and the first generations of Christians, there is much to be disliked by those who performed any Crusade...War is an ugly thing...

I thought this series was pretty good, however, YMMV

Religion - it's the proverbial chicken or the egg argument. Better watch out for that theological samonella that's been spreading for the last several thousand years or so. It's a killer.

However - YMMV - and so it goes...
