just curious, is that a full AI, or an AI with a rem700 action? im asking cause an AI is a lil too deep for my pockets, and i was thinking about putting together a rifle with an AI stock/rem700 action.

I'm thinking that it's a Remington action, it looks like a VTR barreled action dropped into an AICS stock.

AI Stocks
I would recommend you stay away from the AI stocks using Rem actions. Too damn heavy and rediculously expensive. I once had a folder and the block was machined incorrectly. When the guard screws were tightened the action was actually bent. I personally can not say enough bad about them. Better to use a McMillan or an H-S Precision. If I needed a folder I would go to Robar (not cheap either).

I will second that recommendation. Personally, I think it's better than a McMillan (the Gunsmith showed me why!).
FWIW - HS Precision offers a military discount, a quality product (best in the price range), and decent customer service too.

For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

School house has AI stocks. They work great and definitely have enhanced the accuracy on standard 24s. Didn't realize it until my 3/4 MOA shooting with a standard 24 with an H&S dropped down to dime sized groups using the AI. They are great for recoil management and driving the gun.

The primary long range platform on my team is rocking a 300 WIN Mag on an AI stock. Recoil is significantly reduced compared to other bolt 300's I have fired and the accuracy is excellent wrt bullet and range requirements.
When I hit the lottery I'll own my personal version shortly after.

It's an AICS 1.5 w/ a Rem 700 VTR dropped in it. Compared to my B&C I'm very impressed by it. Around the same time I also put a 2lb timney trigger in it and my group size and felt recoil are both reduced. It's consistently under 1/2 inch groups. It fits my rifle like a glove, and the AI mags are top notch. What ever chassis you go w/ I'd stick w/ one that has DMB for AI mags.

Have a Yugoslavian 24/47 Mauser just like yours that I'm detailing right now. I'm going to tweek the bolt and then blue it and the buttplate. I'm refinishing the stock with a nice stain and will probably top it off with either tung or linseed oil.
How do you like the Romanian AK? I understand that the magazines wobble a little bit because there are no indents on the side of the receiver. Would like to try one sometime because I believe they are the cheapest ones available.
