I like it and at it's price, it's worth trying. It's a little smaller in diameter than the standard handguard which makes it easier to grip for me. I bought it with MVG and light for the purpose of mounting in the position shown. It hasn't seen hard use yet so I can't comment on it's ruggedness.

I got a new camera so I figured I would snap a few photos...

I would appreciate any feedback anyone cares to offer.... on lighting, angle, etc. etc. I'm trying to pick photography up as a hobby, and I'm a DSLR novice.

TIA

Wednesday I purchased a new M&P 340 .357 mag. for a new off duty weapon to supplement my primary off duty a G19. Thursday I shot 200 rounds through it and qualified to carry it. My carry load will be the SPEER 135 gr. Short Barrel .357 mag GDHP. I will be carrying it in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster until my Kramer pocket holster is delivered. So far I really like it and wished I would have purchased a pocket revolver a long time ago. Very soon it will find it's way to Superior Firearms for some needed work.

Dammit!

Now I got me a wheelgun jones!

Nice pics, BTW.

Did you do a night fire with it?

SJ, nice iron and pics there as well. You might want to get a reflector or bounce light source reflecting down on your subjects for your shots, shoot at a higher angle (more overhead) and tighten up the shots on fewer subjects in a single shot. Good job though.

SJ,
I agree with everything TR said about the lighting, but to add... I'm not sure if you have an external flash yet, the little included internal ones suck. Sorry to burst your bubble, they are useless as hell and only blow out the highlights on the subject. If you get an external flash the pictures will look 1000 times better. You'll have an even spread of lighting if you bounce it off the ceiling or wall.

It looks like you used a lot of natural lighting as well, which is awesome, and even natural light can be modified with a reflector or it can be diffused.

What kind of camera did you end up purchasing?

Heres a cool website that discusses lighting. The guy's kind of a genius when it comes to lighting. I really think you learn about half from reading, and the other half from doing. www.strobist.com

But onto my question for you... what size barrel is on the rifle? And could you take a more overhead picture of it? I'd like to see the whole setup.

cszakolczai,

Thanks for the link and advice, I will look into an external flash as well. I settled on a Cannon XSI, I almost got the T1i, but I got a better deal on the XSI. I picked up a 18-55mm, 55-200mm, and Ultra wide angle lenses for it plus a great tripod.

The rifle has a 10.5 inch barrel w/ a surefire scout light and a surefire suppressor.

Personally, I think these photos came out like crap. The ones above where shot in a dark room with only the light from the 2 surefires bouncing off of 4 walls.

TR,

Thank you for the advice I'll shall start my research on reflectors and lighting. I fear this maybe the expensive part of photography...

First off, nice camera, the XSi is a great little camera. If you had a Nikon I could have helped out with the flash situation. Which wide angle did yu get? 10-22? If so thats a sweet sweet lens.

I really like the AR, that is exactly how I want to build mine. Although I think I may go with the 11.5 barell from Del-Ton. Is that a 7" surefire rail as well? Free float or non free float?
