DATE POSTED: JUNE 7, 2005
MEDIA ADVISORY: Pinelander Appreciation Day pays tribute to volunteers of Special Forces training exercise ‘Robin Sage'
U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (Army News Service, April 14, 2005) — More than 200 North Carolina citizens will be recognized by the commanding general of the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School for their volunteer efforts during the Special Forces training exercise Robin Sage.
The first-ever Pinelander Appreciation Day will be held at the central exercise operations center in Seagrove, N.C., June 11, beginning at 11 a.m.
Scheduled events include: a military-freefall demonstration, equipment displays, two interactive training simulators and children’s activities. Individual certificates of appreciation will be presented to the volunteers.
Conducted by the Fort Bragg-based 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne), Robin Sage is a quarterly, annual exercise. It is designed to provide prospective Special Forces Soldiers with realistic training in unconventional warfare, and is the capstone training exercise for the Special Forces Qualification Course.
Robin Sage has been conducted for more than 40 years with the help of both civilian authorities and the citizens of central North Carolina.
Local citizens support the exercise by volunteering time, land and lodging. Their participation is crucial to the success of Special Forces training, and anecdotal evidence gathered from past trainees attests to the realism the volunteers add to the exercise.
USAJFKSWCS mission is to train and build the future operational force with Special Forces warriors who are adaptable, agile and capable to enter combat operations as a member of a Special Forces team.
