I have no basis of knowledge to discredit this individual and his story, I'll leave that up to the QP veterans and QP's only. I will however pick out a flaw in this individuals thought process and lack of intestinal fortitude with one of his quotes.
"......Then he said, “After you’ve been sitting there for four or five days you begin to think … I might as well go join them (NVA) and fight with them – the country don’t care about me!” .....
What a putz!
I would never even think of joining the "others". If lost and supposedly forgotten I would for one look at my options and only then would I take as many of the enemy with me. I'm not so naive to think that I'm special and irreplacable. I will say that this individual is a finger pointer and jaded and has his place secured in the DNC.
He is right up there with the wannebe's and posers that will ride the coattails of any soldiers rightful glory. I hope that those with supreme searching ability and connections will uncover the truth to this. If credit is due, so be it. If he's a poser, I say a swift kick to the grape smuggler is in order.
Again I'm thankful for the past and current service of my brothers and sisters in arms, those that support us and those that appreciate the freedom's we provide.

Thanks for the heads up.

The guy that reported the story was named George Jones.
Sand Mountain. That place happens to be a haven for good ole boys. A Sand Mountain Milk shake is corn bread mixed with butter milk in a glass.
I'll leave Ambush Master to comment when he gets a reply.

Holy cow! PT Barnum was right. How a reporter bought that entire story without questioning it is beyond belief.

I lived near Lafayette, GA for a few years. After that I was ready for anything a culture overseas could throw at me.

AM, I have also asked the writer if he checked his facts as the story read like a children's book that begins "Once upon a time".
Waiting for a reply.
Just got a delivery track from my outlook so he has it.

I'm probably wrong but I was under the impression that there were only a few HALO jumps in Nam??? Did anyone notice his time line? Went from joining the Army, to his MOS for a "Short stint," Airborne, SF school, Jungle warfare and then to Vietnam in less than a year. Odd. How does one jump out of a B-52? The bomb bay? If he jumped into Laos wouldn't he be SOG? What a fucking loser.

Not taking anything away from what Spartan359 wrote but I think we have a senior member here who has exited a flying aircraft thru the bomb bay doors.

Yes, I did leave a "Vintage" B-17 at a Confederate Air Force-Air Show from the Bomb-Bay !! There is a big difference !!!
On another note, I did get a "response" from the Newspaper's website that they did receive my message. BTW, I invited that reporter over here !! This could be either interesting, a Chewtoy Potential, or BOTH !!!
As I always say, "Hide and watch.......Wait and see " !!!!

Everything this guy wrote was pure bullshit. The Sand Mountain Reporter is still running the story, even after being told by a few dozen Special Forces soldiers it was pure bullshit.
It is quite clear that The Sand Mountain Reporter's profit motive far outweighs any moral obligation to print the truth.
george jones will be working for CBS soon I'm sure. What a bunch of slime balls!

I know Sand Mountain well, I only came down from working up there for 13 years last June. I doubt very seriously that the newspaper has a profit motive - ain't nobody getting rich from publishing up there. I would hazard a guess that they view this man as one of their own and any commentary coming from folks outside as hostile and patronising. Your best bet is to find someone who is either from the area (or else someone who has genuine affection for the mountain and its people) and have them come at the problem from a perspective of genuine patriotism and defense of all the true veterans on that mountain.
If you attack them, they will resist or attack back. If you defend their real veterans and love of country, they won't throw out the liar but they'll make him defend his lies in public - an excellent policy for any paper. They aren't fools up there - they've given their own and their all before, like this young man. They love to fight well. Get on their side and they'll fight with you instead of against you.
