Where does your state rank?

Concealed carry regulations vary widely across the country. Guns & Ammo magazine looked at the most up-to-date laws in each of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, and ranked the states from worst to first. Criteria included ease of acquiring a concealed carry permit, costs associated with licensure, training hours required and reciprocity with other states.

This is a horrible list organization. Complaints about fees rate worse than complaints about where you can actually carry. Idaho gets dinged for poor stand your ground laws, which have nothing to do with concealed carry. One of the more dangerous statutes, duty to inform, barely gets a mention.

In AZ, it's "upon request". My lead-foot wife has been stopped twice this year () and there was no request. I think that they just assume that most people are carrying. They are very polite, though, they let her off both times with a verbal warning.

Disagree with this article. Our local Sheriff in Ohio has close to a 24hr turn around for issuing CCW that he's proud of. You can carry almost anywhere including schools.
They've offered free classes for teachers to carry in schools.
You can even carry in bars and other places that sell liquor.

I think about the only places you can't is federal buildings.

We have both open and CCW carry.

Extensive training? LOL, I think when I went to 12 hours (maybe 8) and from some of the people in there they needed it.

Many people that are getting a gun have never held one and need and appreciate some time of training. My son has been trained by me and will probably think the training is a long day next year when he sits through it.

I was expecting to see Ohio closer to the top of the list. #41 is BS. I quit reading after that.

From the Ohio Attorney General
The law sets forth several places where your license does not allow you to carry a handgun. Under the law, you may not carry a concealed handgun into the following places:
• Police stations
• Sheriffs’ offices
• Highway Patrol posts
• Premises controlled by BCI

• Correctional institutions or other detention facilities
• Airport terminals or airplanes
• Facilities for the care of mentally ill persons
• Courthouses or buildings in which a courtroom is located
• Universities, unless locked in a motor vehicle or in the process of being locked in a motor vehicle
• Places of worship, unless the place of worship permits otherwise
• Child day-care centers
• Licensed Class D liquor permit premises if you are consuming beer or intoxicating liquor or are under the influence. If you are not consuming, you may carry unless there is a conspicuous sign prohibiting carry. Possession of a concealed firearm is allowed in a retail store with a D-6 or D-8 permit as long as the concealed carry license holder is not consuming liquor. Class D permits are generally issued to an establishment that sells alcohol for consumption on the premises. In any event, do not consume beer or intoxicating liquor before carrying a concealed handgun into a licensed premises.
• Government facilities that are not used primarily as a shelter, restroom, parking facility for motor vehicles, or rest facility and are not a courthouse or a building or structure in which a courtroom is located.
• School safety zones
A “school safety zone” includes a school, school building, school premises, school activity, and school bus. For purposes of this statute, a school includes everything up to the property boundary.
If you are licensed to carry a concealed handgun, you may carry a handgun into a school safety zone only if you do not enter a school building, school premises, or school activity. You also must not be in one of the places listed in ORC 2923.126(B). You may be in a motor vehicle and immediately in the process of picking up or dropping off a child. You also must comply with all other laws governing the transportation of firearms in a motor vehicle. State Admin Rule 128-4-02
(10) Firearms or other weapons, concealed or otherwise, are prohibited within the capitol buildings and grounds without the express written permission of the board.
Definitions of Capitol Grounds
(A) “Capitol buildings” shall include the capitol, atrium connector and senate building
(B) “Capitol grounds” shall be defined as the property surrounding the capitol buildings bounded by High street on the west, Third street on the east, Broad street on the north and State street on the south side of the capitol and accompanying steps leading to the capitol buildings.

I stand corrected on the Federal...I should have said Government buildings in general and I don't know where they get their facts as you can carry in schools.

You can carry in bars as long as you're not drinking which is common sense, so I should have said Government.

They're in the process of changing Day-care centers and lowering the training to zero hours.

Ohio is very gun friendly for CCW and I personally don't give a shit as I carried long before some ass-wipe told be I could.

Interesting. Thanks for the clarification.

Now we don't take this site as "gospel", but do find it to be one of the better run sites for different gun laws around the country.

Apparently, their information is somewhat skewed.

Talked to the CCW section at my local sheriff's department. I heard two people discuss in the background.
One was saying you can't. The other was saying that that has been changed and now it's up to the local school district itself.
They said they'd look into it and get back.

It might still be in the legislature.

Pretty bad when LEO's aren't sure of local laws.
I talked to a policewoman about a year ago and she wasn't aware Ohio allowed open carry also.
