Diversity and Inclusion Critical to Mission Success
Pentagon’s Chief Personnel and Readiness Officer: Diversity and Inclusion Critical to Mission Success
By Sterling Beard October 29, 2013 5:33 PM
Jessica L. Wright, the acting under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, said today that the Defense Department must maintain its commitment to diversity and inclusion, which contribute to mission success.
She asserted that diversity helps civilian and military employees perform well because they “represent the nation in our workforce.”
The Defense Department not only talks “about diversity in terms of race and gender, and ethnicity, but it is much more than that in my mind,” Wright said. She declared that diversity included “your thought process, how you grew up, [and] what you can add to the greater good because of your background.”
Wright, the very model of a modern retired major general in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, was speaking Tuesday on best practices for inclusion and diversity at an event hosted by the German Marhsall Fund of the United States.
The webpage for the event, titled “Mission Critical: Transatlantic Security and Diversity,” declared, “it is a security imperative for military leaders to proactively advance diversity and inclusion (D&I) best practices,” because of the “rapid demographic change [and] advances in gender and LGBT equity and a new generation of veterans in NATO countries.”

I hate this PC bullshyte. Everyone is starting to sound like a political buzz-word parrot now-a-days.
Well, fellas ... I'm VERY inclusive. While on active duty I was willing to go wherever my country sent me ... to kill inclusively: politics, race, religion, sex (oops ... "gender"), and unnatural proclivities aside; I was willing to shoot them dead with equality. Especially communists.
Never got the opportunity.

I have an idea. Why don't we say Training, Conditioning, Dedication and Motivation are critical to Mission Success. Measure up or move the F**k out.

Perhaps this paragraph has been changed since then in the interest of social experimentation, but I'd say TRADOC had it basically right.

So .... can I claim post-traumatic stress injury because my OSUT drill sergeant called us collectively "a bunch of goddam limp-wristed fags who'd rather drop soap in the shower than act like soldiers!" ... he hurt my feelings [have already filled out the "Hurt Feelings Form", thanks]. And I think he violated bullets 2 & 3 in one outburst!
I agree with bullet #1 especially since girls are everywhere now ... but numbers 2 and 3? Standing Operating Procedures, methinks.

Bullet points 2 and 3 would be just cause to abolish the Marine Corps. It doesn't say anything about it, so it must be OK to physically abuse recruits with fists and feet. Or is that just so far outside the realm of possibly that it doesn't deserve mentioning? Without bullet points 2,3 and the physical abuse, Parris Island would have been a Sandals Resort. Of course, Phase I did make Parris Island seem like a resort, even with only some light cursing, gentle dog bites on the hand and calf by Kaiser, fear of bouncing the gate and no kicking or punching. My, times have changed.

Blue Book?
When did Trainees get a g-damned "GUIDE BOOK" on how to be a Trainee?
Senior Drill set the tone and we all ran as fast as we could to already be late. Wow, have things changed.
As we know, this has been a slow and deliberate process to soften the military and future Veterans.

Bullshit. Pure politically correct bullshit. History has proved it so.
Diversity had nothing to do with the rise of Nazi Germany and their military successes in WWII following the crippling sanctions put on them following WWI.
Not condoning Nazi German politics or world-view, but simply to use them as a counterpoint.... common values and a common purpose DO lead to mission success.
Why can't we stick to that theme? American exceptionalism, American values (based upon Judeo-Christian tradition)...and I'd also add.. English language.
No discrimination there, all are included that want to subscribe to that world view.
but I guess I'm wrong. "Diversity" is what is important.

Ahhhh, in some parts of the world, diversity will guarantee failure. I am sure you guys can think of a bunch of places that are like that.

It seems to me that there are those (POTUS, Jarrett, Soros-types et. al.) that HATE the military and all that it has stood for: honor, integrity, courage, dedication, sacrifice, excellence, discipline, love of the sovereign nation of the United States of America and its Constitution, just to name a few. It would appear that some are doing their utmost to weed out those who take these virtues seriously. When "social experimentation" and "political correctness" takes aim at our military, it is obvious that someone intends to take a wrecking ball to our military.
There are those who seriously believe that sovereign nation-states are a relic of the past. A strong, unified and dedicated military stands in the way of that goal. Just my $.02, FWIW.

To me, mission success begins with a clear statement of purpose, mission, end state, and risk, followed by thorough analysis and preparation of a plan, issuance of an Operations Order, application of appropriate resources, thorough rehearsals, followed by accomplishment of the objective with the minimum friendly and collateral casualties practicable.
I see no contribution by diversity and inclusion, other than the "feel-good" factor by those who have not participated, yet want to claim some credit.

Can you indentify an interval in American history when either social experimentation or political correctness did not inform military policy?

That means a take a mix of unqualified personnel, call them qualified by changing the requirements and put them in a situation that they will struggle with mightily.
