windows 7 backup

Every time I do a windows 7 backup to external disk. I always back up my photos and important documents separately after the auto back up completes.
My question is. Do I need to do this? Or are those files backed up in the Windows 7 back up process. The back up file is huge. But I seriously could not find a straight answer on Google.
I have had three computers die on me in the last 4 years. Having a backup and system repair disk has made it pretty painless. Norton Ghost works great when wanting to set up your new computer with all the same settings as your old one. But you have to pay for that one. Think there are some good Ghost programs for free.
Always back up.

The backup built into Win7 should include the entire system, documents and photos and such included. I still don't use it, though...I don't trust it...had corrupted backups one too many times that way. I generally use dd on a bootable linux thumb drive. It's a ponderous way to go about things, but it works every time.

Edit: bear in mind, Win7 will only back up allocated files, whereas dd, if you choose to use that, will back up every single sector, allocated or not...so you'll be backing up data that is only useful to a forensic analyst. In other words, a backup made with dd will be MUCH larger than a standard backup image.

Windows 7 backs up the photos with every thing else. However, the backups are all in zip files without name lines.

Shadowprotect Desktop

I have used this program for years and it has saved my bacon many times. With HIR (hardware independent restore), I have not only been able to restore my system when I have had hard drive crashes, but also have been able to move from old laptop to new laptop seamlessly.

The image is searchable also, if you just need to grab/restore 1 particular document or photo that you just deleted...oops

Some may think it is expensive in comparison to other products, but after having had to recover from several crashes and "disasters", I personally think it is a bargain even at 3x the price...YMMV

Yes there are definitely better ones then windows. Below is a link to some free ones. Read the review to make sure it isn't a trial version. Just read the agreements when installing. Sneaky bitches try to slip in addition programs. Just un check the boxes. No viruses to worry about.
Luckily Fire fox doesn't let any external program change your settings without your say so. I'm surprised Microsoft didn't snag up all the rights to Web browsers. Because these mega companies lobbied.....paid off congress to pass ridicules intellectual property laws. We are forced to use an inferior product. Windows is junk and Apple forces you to use and pay for their products just to use their system to it's full potential.
Amazing a couple of people are keeping advanced, flawless technology from us.
They are some sneaky bitches

There's always open-source. It's as easy as running Windows now, and it's free...generally more stable, faster, higher performance...and lacks the security, privacy, and freedom concerns of Windows 7 and 8, both of which play VERY nicely with trusted computing...

We shouldn't have to take that rout. It's the same if the guy who invented the tire was the only one allowed to sell said tires.
The hologram technology is being held up by this type of crap. Remember the one that projected Tu-Pac on stage.
Hopefully soon you will set your Iphone on the ground and a hologram of that person will appear.
You will be able to see Jimi Hendrix in concert as if he was live. Don't even get me started on the porn applications

Lol, love Jimi...

Clonezilla works very well on Windows and Linux for complete images of Partitions and Drives, not sure about iOS. It's Open Source and Free. Use it for servers and desktops (linux, win7 vista xp) but I do keep the hardware the same.

The more daring can build a Linux that did anything they wanted and nothing more. Try it with Gentoo or Arch, the former being my favorite and it's not all that hard just takes some time and attention to details.
