Remembering

Lt Col Martin R. Beck. 1925-1969. USMC WWII, Korea. US Army Vietnam.

Hit the beach at Tarawa as a young Marine. Graduated FSU after Korea and received an Army comission.

He was my CO with the 10th in Germany and Devens. I was still at Devens when he was killed 7/24/69 after going to the 5th. I was one of the honorary pallbearers when we buried him at Arlington.

One hell of a soldier. I learned a more under his command than anywhere before or since. I remember most his steely-eyed grin as he skiied down the slopes of the Brauneck. Not a graceful skier, he would beat the mountain into submission. Not many could do that.

Rest in Peace, sir. 44 years. You are not forgotten. I raise my glass to you.
