Wonderful. I suppose his endorsement will aid in her successful appointment to mayor. I can hear it now.

Come on, man! Our current mayor was arrested booked and perp walked after being caught in an FBI sting operation soliciting bribes for city contracts. Stunningly, he is running for re-election while waiting trial! So choices are the Ho or the Felon. Actually, we also have a former state rep running also.
To give the HO her due, she is a HO no mo. She is a self made multi-millionaire that has invested a couple of million bucks plus into the city in the form of small businesses (storage units and fitness centers) and has been a huge moving force in a "get fit Mississippi" program. Apparently, she's been out of the HO trade for twenty years and is very open about it. She uses her story as an example to encourage young women to try hard and overcome early poor choices. A classic story of redemption. Unfortunately, between Linda, the mayor and our chancery clerk (who "over charged" the county $650,000) we are the laughing stock of the state and now the nation. Justifiably.
So how do we handle this? Laugh with the rest of the world. It's surreal even if your in the middle of it! As Richard says: "And so it goes....."

I am so glad everyone here didn’t have to grow up in poverty and oppression and has lived a “Saintly” live since birth. I am sure she was reviewing all the career choice with her high school guidance counselor and pick whore off the list. Or, maybe she made the best of shitty situation and is continuing to keep on trying. Party politics aside, I do not condemn her for her past for simple prostitution.
Okay all that aside, its still a little funny!

SF18C, that is exactly her point. She has basically on the local lecture circuit stating just that. Pregnant at 15-16, basically on her own, turned her life around and became "somebody." She has worked very hard to make a difference. She was Patrick House's coach. Patrick won TV's biggest loser contest. He was also a runner in Boston Marathon a couple of days back. She was named one of CNN's 10 most influential women. She has led the battle on obesity in the third most obese county in the most obese state in the Union. And invested heavily in a town with a flat economy.
Interestingly enough, a large group of fairly well known women, my wife inclusive, are hosting a cocktail party/fundraiser for her. Almost all are bedrock Republicans. There are no Republican candidates. Linda, I am told, has called them her "Miss Melanies" (you have to have seen "Gone With the Wind") So even Linda has to laugh.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone comes to mind.
At least she is making something out of herself instead of wallowing in her own self pity and expecting the Govt to take care of her.

+1. I just wish she wouldn't lie about it, and instead say look where she has come from and where she is trying to go(ok, maybe hooker really is higher on the totem pole of integrity than politician )

Is that 'stereotyping' supposed to be funny?
Here's her former 'pimp' - his name is Dennis Hof. You should listen to what he has to say.

I could give a shit less about her past, especially since I don't live in MS. However, I really don't see this as a good message to send the youth of today basically stating that "If life hands you a raw deal, so what, there is always hope". Dr. Ben Carson's story about rising from a bad situation is a better way to send that message IMO.
What's next? Maybe a crack head running for mayor of DC? Oh wait, my mistake, BTDT. That was a feel-good message too. We castrate athletes who take illegal steroids, or cry foul when a politician remarks he want's to cut funding to PBS, but being a reformed slut is just dandy? I just don't see how her running for public office is sending an appropriate message. Just one more mile down the rabbit hole we go.

Then your SA is lacking.
As for messages, hasn't such 'hope' been a 'message' this country has sent to the world, at large, for centuries? And for those who are wont to claim this nation was founded by Judeo-Christian ideals and is predominantly a Christian nation, isn't such 'hope' a keystone of the message they claim Christianity promotes for its adherents?
Be that as it may, the 'opinions' you've expressed, ICW with their tone, are as telling as the responses to the originally linked politicized opinions of DG in FP.

Perhaps I should have clarified. Using this woman's life story as the message of "If life hands you a raw deal, so what, there is always hope" is wrong. That is what I meant by that statement. That is why I referenced Dr. Carson after the original statement to reflect a better way to broadcast that message.
