Horse 'Swatted'

Short humorous situation developing here, no place else to post it.

So, get a call early morning last week.

Woman asks, 'Sir, do you have horses?'

Me, 'yes I have three horses, two draft.'

Woman, 'Do you have a brown one with a white star or spot on its forehead?" (she sounds excited)

Me, 'Well, I have two that are brown and both have white spots on the forehead'

Woman, 'well we have the brown one with the star on its forehead here (location some twenty miles away)

Me, 'That's interesting I just fed them.'

(son gets up nods and heads out to barn)

Woman, 'Well I looked up the branding on this one, a J with an arrow shows up as crossed arrow ranch.

Me, 'Well, none of my horses are branded mam.

Woman, well the brand is yours?

Me, no mam, I do not have a brand.

(she does not sound convinced)

Woman, 'Well, this horse needs medical attention (voice getting more forceful)

Me, "Mam, Dr. Pepper is the only Equine vet in the county that makes house calls typically.

Woman, 'Well I know that'

Me, "I see" Well, you could also call The Sheriff they typically help farmers find lost livestock and we all let them know if we find anything.

Woman, 'Fine, good bye.

Me to son, 'well she does not sound happy'

two days later...
County Animal control shows up.

Animal control officer,

Hello, 'do you have horses?
Do you have a brand?
Woman says its your horse,
It had to be put down, it bit her.
we need to find owner'

(Short version, yes, not my horse, not sure who's it is, did you check the Amish, My horses are in the barn, feel free to go look, have a nice day)

Four days from the first call.

State Police Shows up at my door

Hello, 'do you have horses? Do you have a brand?

A 'different woman' says its your horse, she has been calling from her animal rescue place and wants us to find the owner, she is certain its yours and says its your brand. The horse had to be put down, it bit the first woman.

(eye squint)

I can only imagine I will be getting a visit from the PETA Next to ask me if I have horses.

No wonder the horse bit the women.

Why don't you just go get the bit lady; drive her to the horses location? You can loan her your gun and let her shoot it. Save a lot of aggravation . . . might be kinder to you and the horse.

The bit woman, after getting bit, they put the horse down.

Now they are just trying to find someone to blame

Can't the the idiot woman just check with your state brand registry? Might give her something to do other than bother you and the local PD.

Did you say that they put the horse down because it bit someone? Holy smoke. That's pretty unusual.

We just had a huge blowup here, some people were trying to start a horse slaughter plant, and some locals lost their minds (and we're in rural Missouri).

Horse people...

...are crazy (no offense to present company).

I am confused as to why someone that comes across a stray horse would put themselves in such a position to be bitten by the animal. She is probably freaking out because if she can't find the owner and verify the horse's last rabies vaccination, then she has to begin the rabies series, possibly to include the HRIG. I remember a sign at a training course I attended that read: "Pain is a good teacher". This would fall in that category.
