Unusual malfunction part deux
curse this and the other thread! ....and prvi 175!
I was reading the other thread last night and thought, wow that's interesting...and sucks
So there I was this morning maintaining fundamentals with the OBR when I had a FTE. Couldn't even pull the charging handle. Placing it on the stock and hammering down on the handle didn't do it either. Had to remove the upper, then carefully put a rod down the barrel and tried to push the case (and bolt) back while pulling the handle too. Finally the bolt got out as well as the casing. There's a huge extractor bite mark and the primer is protruding out. Looks like the load is hot. Put the bolt back then it was stuck again. Once it's out, I notice a flattened primer fell out from the gas tube area. Another guy pointed out the case from the previous round was missing the primer So that primer was blown off the case when that round fired, and then the last round fired with that primer STILL STUCK somewhere inside. I understand the internal parts are made of metal far harder than the primer, but at tight tolerance and high pressure? I inspect the chamber, gas tube, bolt face, etc and no surface damage noted. The chamber face has some marks, but I can't tell if it's been there for a while or not
Then the nightmare began. Failure to feed and double feed every 2 rounds or so with 168gr and every round with 175. Rotated all Larue and Magpul mags. Same thing. Looks like the bolt went back far enough to eject the round and reset the trigger, but not far enough to load the next round. Ouch!
I have never had malfunction with the OBR. Suppressed and non-suppressed. Match ammo or not.
I don't want to go to Leander TX and waste the Larue guys time if this is something that has an easy fix. I hope it's not a catastrophic damage/failure.
Help ?
