I hope you boys will forgive me for sharing some north of the border news.
Introduced by the Liberal government in the 90's as an 'answer' to a school shooting in Quebec, the long gun registry was finally put into the ground by our majority Conservative government yesterday.
A 2 billion dollar waste (of what was promised to only cost 2 million per year) of our tax money, an ineffectual dent on any sort of crime, and a shopping list for any criminal wanting to hack into our private records (admitted by the Federal police to have happened multiple times).....this is nothing but a good thing. As a quick background, this was a bill for mandatory registration of all newly purchased or privately sold/transferred, non-restricted firearms (hunting rifles, shotguns, milsurps, and anything not otherwise placed on Canada's list of 'restricted/prohibited' firearms)
Nothing changes in the way of licensing (which all Canadians have had to have since the '60s), or the mandatory registration of the aforementioned restricted (ARs, SBRs, handguns) or prohibited (grandfathered only, full auto, AKs, FALs, .32 cal, some handguns etc) weapons. Unfortunately I don't think this ever will change...but then again, some said that about the long gun registry too.
Thankfully the days of having to get government approval to have a duck or deer gun...or even an old milsurp. What a fucking waste of time, money, resources and breath.
Democracy does work, even in the Commonwealth....it just takes a nation of firearm owners, and those sick of socialist agendas, to elect a new government
