27 rifles stolen from California military base

27 rifles stolen from California military base

http://old.news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110...ilitary_rifles

"..........Twenty-six AK-74 assault rifles and one Dragunov sniper rifle were stolen from a supply warehouse at Fort Irwin in San Bernardino County on July 15, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says in a statement.......... "

Noticed it said supply warehouse and not arms room.

Someone's butt is going to go through the ringer over that one. I'll bet that was accomplished with some help from the "inside". With ten military installations in Southern California incidents like this have always been a problem. The federal agents here are pretty good about tracking down and retrieving stolen property. Large thefts other than weapons usually end up in the many surplus stores.

Hmm

It's been my experience that military supply warehouses have at least one vault for the purpose of issuing and turning in weapons. These vaults do not open themselves, and only certain people are privy to the means of opening it. Visitor logs to such places usually exist too, among other security measures. Inside job and a higher echelon civil servant is ultimately responsible for this F-up. I suppose money talks, but you gotta be one stupid mother to try this.

I understand that the heat may be getting to people there, but I haven't yet seen that form of idiocracy here and it's in the mid 120's!

Is someone going to remind the ATF that they are supposed to RECOVER the weapons...?

That, apparently, is not their main priority these days.
